how long or how far can we boost on the turbo, assuming our turbo is stock and cruising at a highway?

is theres any limitation or whatsoever for turbo cars?

If you're at crusing speed, Your trrbo shouldn't be spooling very hard. No problems there. Turbo spools up when you are accelarating or at high/top speed.

For stock car, u don't need any gauges unless u want to increase the power later. When u do increase power, u need to rebuild the stock auto gearbox because all Mitsu cars have very weak auto gearbox.

But, for the fun of it, a boost gauge is quite useful.

Yes, the auto gearbox (CVT included) is very weak and not suitable for high power application in stock form. U need to rebuild it with stronger parts. A typical rebuild can cost between RM 4k to 10k depending on the type of parts used. Anyway, this is for hardcore people.

If u only plan for a 10-15% power increase, the gearbox will be ok... I blew 2 auto gearbox in 1 year driving a Galant VR4. Now, I'm rebuilding one as spare. Long term project, so the cost is minimal when calculated per month basis.

For now, u don't have to worry too much. Main cause of auto gearbox failure is heat. So, a good ATF cooler is essential. Unfortunately, Mitsu recycle the engine oil cooler as ATF cooler which is too thick for the gearbox. Consider upgrading if u plan to increase the power.

Also, don't drive like a mad man or burn the front tires often, this will eventually damage the gearbox internals. FWD wheel spin is pretty common esp with auto gearbox.

For auto, u need to upgrade the clutch rings, seals, valve body springs, pump and torque converter.

Here's mine so far... doing it slowly due to tight budget.

For now, I've opt for remove all the 4WD components from the W4A33 gearbox to reduce weight and make it more durable since my car cannot be converted to 4WD legally.

Nope. Pics taken from gearbox specialist's workshop. Waiting to pay them a visit next week for the latest update.

OIC... I tot maybe you have a personal garage somewhere in your compound :)
Anyway, why not stroke up?

With a weaker geabox, I can't mod the engine for higher hp. So, mod the gearbox 1st and mod the engine to the max later. So far, I've upgraded the car's suspension handling (coilovers) and engine mountings (PU). Doing this slowly due to limited budget.

If I have RM 50k to play... it's a different story.

Of course, with budget, a 2.4L 4G64 would be an ideal choice.

acbc,
u said wit a weaker gearbox one can mod the engine for higher hp... how much higher to u mean? another 20% - 25% should it be sufficient with stock gearbox?

And how to make my current gearbox stronger? and how long do you think it would need to get it done?
