hey guys.i'm new here.i'm driving a 97 putra auto stock standard except for the open port filter.
anyway my question is i own a waja 1.6 auto before but to me the pick up of the waja is much better than my current putra n so is the consumption 2.
so i'm wondering whether gearbox does makes a difference.i feel that the putra's gear changes faster than the waja.
if i'm not mistaken every production car has a speed cut right?i tried witht he putra n the most is 190kmh but for the waja 200(can push somemore la but tyre cant cope la :) standard ma).
question is can i fit a waja gearbox into the putra without doing any modification?n i like it auto as i dont need to change gear during traffic jam la ;P

1st of all, powerplant for putra and waja are not exchangeable. they are fitted on the exact opposit of each other. see ur putra engine. its mounted 180 degree clockwise. silverfish and black samurai may say anti clockwise but i dont bother, its the same anyway.. ha ha ha

waja auto gearbox is of mitsubishi's mid 90s generation INVECS II. they're now using INVECS III on most of their cars. INVECS II is designed to be adaptive to your style of driving and make do without manual overdrive switch as well as power/economy mode.

putra auto tranny is fitted with either function. if u r using power mode, the gearchanges are in the higher rpm so as to extract more power at the upper band. if ur on normal mode aka economy, the gear changes are much faster. this has good affect on economy especially on suburban or highway drives but not so in the city where u cud feel throttle response like lembap.

i am saying this based on standard wheels (waja 15", putra 14"). if ur putra was using bigger wheels, that had affected acceleration.

on the other hand, waja engine is designed with good torque output at low to mid rpm. actually, by theory any SOHC engine behaves like that compare to DOHC. but from my personal experience 4G18 has better pull compare to 4G92 1.6. maybe also 4G93. maybe laa...

the thinking gearbox can 'feel' that there is torque sufficient enuff to swap to another ratio which the putra auto gearbox just cant do. i hope this answered some of ur questions...

regarding speed cut, not all cars have them. some putra have, some dont. all proton sagas for example, dont have fuel cut off for speed and rpm.
har!har!har!

thanks zan for the reply.anyway my putra is still with the standard size rim that is 14.n my waja 15.
i bought the waja second hand n everything is standard from engine to exhaust.but it's a super duper powerful wja auto man.i sold it because it has some wiring problem la.the headlight bulb always goes bust.need to change it once a month $$$$ fly away man.
not to brag but i tried it(drag) with a manual waja but mine still comes out top :)
dont know whether the previous owner tweak the engine or not.could it be possible he change the cams?
