Hot off the heels of their MP4-12C, McLaren have already reportedly been working on a flagship supercar that would have the likes of the Bugatti Veyron in its crosshairs. British magazine Autocar has the deets on the devilish Mac that could soon be a regular sight in the rear-view mirrors of Veyrons.
According to the report, the car will be powered by a 5-liter V8 with 799hp and 799Nm of torque. Although all this still simmers in the speculation pan, McLaren’s Executive Chairman, Ron Dennis, did label the Veyron a ‘piece of junk’ last year, fuelling claims that McLaren would be working on a rival.
Dubbed the ‘Mega Mac,’ it will be built upon a carbon fiber monocell similar to the MP4-12C. The aforementioned engine will be developed together with Ricardo. Cog-swapping will be handled by means of a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox from Graziano that allows it a century sprint time of just over 2.8-seconds.
McLaren are aiming for a production run of around 100 to 150 units annually over a three to four year period, if the car does actually materialise.
