While Ferrari’s latest flagship is pulling in all the attention mainly due to its concept-esque shooting-brake body style and al-new V12 nuclear-plant of an engine, its four-wheel drive system should be given its fair share of the limelight as well, particularly considering the high-tech way it functions and the being the first Prancing Horse with four-wheel drive.

For those that don’t speak geek and Klingon, Ferrari have offered us a visual explanation on how the system, dubbed 4RM, works and why it’s able to weigh in at just half the normal weight of conventional four-wheel drive systems.

As the video will explain, the 4RM system is able to weight just half the weight of a normal system by having the front wheels powered directly from the crankshaft through a front-mounted transfer case called the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). This negates the need for a transfer shaft back to the front from the rear-mounted gearbox, unlike that employed in the Nissan GT-R.

The video below will fill in the rest of the blanks.
