Porsche will be presenting the next generation 911 at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year in September. As is the usual procedure, the precedence of an updated model, especially one as iconic as the 911, is by reports suggesting new the improvements to the new model.

Before this, the rumourmill had already churned out a creamy one in the form of a possible seven speed manual transmission for the car. So before the official unveil, Porsche brought a few of the influential motoring publications to sample some of the pre-production cars.

Car and Driver magazine were on that guest list, and they are sharing some of the tidbits they came away with from the brief drive. The biggest confirmation they could provide is that the seven-speed manual transmission is confirmed for a 400hp Carrera S as well as a hybrid drivetrain that will be coming into production later in 2016.

The base Carrera model will be powered by a smaller 3.4-liter boxer mill that will be shared with the Boxster S. Although smaller in displacement from the current Carrera, the powerplant will produce five more horsepower than the current one.

Things are looking very similar for the Carrera S as well with the engine displacement remaining at 3.8-liters but gaining an extra 15hp. Drivers will be able to put down some lightning quarter mile times as launch control will be available for the manual and PDK dual-clutch transmissions.

Cosmetic wise, it’s the 911 after all so don’t be expecting a revolution. The exterior design cues will probably mirror the model it’s replacing but the dimensions would have been slightly greater. The new 911, codenamed 991, will be 2.5-inches longer with the wheelbase stretching by four inches. Even the front and rear tracks have been widened for a wider stance.

One of the major changes, dynamics wise, is the switch to electric power steering, leaving many to wonder if the carmaker can still lay claim some of the best steering feel, crucial if petrol runs through your veins.

The inside is expected to mirror the Panamera but we’ll wait and see if the office is just as welcoming and inspiring as the ones before.

Yeah but the curves and lines of the Porsche are incomparable! A black 911 especially. Bring one up to the hotel/restaurant you'll be instantly recognized as a 'Sir' or mayb in our case 'Datuk'. Most girls will melt over your car. Come on, what's better than driving a ravishing lady in an elegant black dress in a black beauty?

In the GTR you'll never get that. The GTR is a tool. A katana I would call it. Beauty? Not really. Personally it looks not bad, some might even call it butt ugly. But hell does it get the job done.

When I say job, I mean attacking corners and slashing lap time. That's it. The Porsche does it in a fraction of a second slower (maybe?) and yet you can turn up at a posh hotel in the same day while being Mr 'Sir'!
