The sporty coupe you see in the sketch above was revealed by an inside Subaru source and it depicts the Japanese carmaker’s forthcoming rear-wheel drive coupe that is being co-developed with Toyota who as you may already know, holds an 8 percent stake in Subaru.

According to the magazine’s sources, the two Japanese automakers are working on a rear-wheel drive coupe project based on the underpinnings of the Impreza. Despite the fact that the Subaru and Toyota variants of the RWD Coupe will differ in appearance, they will both be powered by Subaru’s 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engines available in naturally aspirated and turbo versions.

Even though Subaru and Toyota’s prime objective is to create a nimble, lightweight RWD coupe, the possibility of a top-notch AWD version should not be ruled out. Sources have stated that the final design of Subaru’s version of the RWD Coupe is due to be signed off in July, with production set to start sometime in 2010.
