i've not been driving my car much lately as its more like my weekend car. even just not, i decided to go fill up petrol, that's why i brought my car out. after refueling, just went for a slow drive less than 5km. when i reached home, i got out of the car and walked pass my driver's side rear tyre. i cud feel the heat. i know my car n this is sumthing new. i went closer to the tyre and could smell like sumthing is hot. touched the rim, it was damn hot. went to the ohter rims and touched them. still can touch. was like suam only. but this rim was boiling hot.
why? what is the problem? what cud be the cause?
well,+1 on a jammed caliper bro.i had the same prob not too long ago.You dont need 3 jacks la,but u can improvise with 1.it will be helpful if u have some bricks lying around and can put them on the front and back of your wheels and for added safety jus put the car in gear(if its a FWD) and release the e brake to troubleshoot, just like the others mentioned, try rotating the wheel and see if there's resistance to confirm.
Servicing the caliper is pretty simple and any workshop should be able to do it.the service kit for my caliper only cost me rm18(for a satria 1.8 rear caliper)if my memory serves correctly and includes an o-ring,a rubber seal and i think 1 or 2 other small fiddly pieces which i cant recall.Mine was jammed up pretty bad and the piston inside was beginning to rust but still salvageable.we just pumped it out, cleaned it,replaced the necessary seals and rings included in the service kit and it was a-ok!driving to the workshop should be alright but go slow.just afraid of warping the disc
and yes,it would be wise to get a new pair of rear pads as well if its reali a jammed caliper, your current pads would be fairly worn with unequal wear compared to the other side and i advise releasing the e brake everytime u park ur car at home(if ur nt gonna be drivin it for a while) and substituting with bricks at the front and back of your wheels so it doesnt happen again.
Gd luck:wavey:
