For a company that only had a single core model in its lineup, one that’s based on a design from more than half a century ago, Caterham has done itself well to stay in the black and keep making light, fuss-free and fun to drive machines.

However, they have recently expanded their lineup with the more track-focused SP/300.R that has the likes of the Radical and X-Bow in its crosshairs. Now under the ownership of Tony Fernandes, a huge cash injection is expected to further increase their portfolio with new models.

Precisely what the new models will be like is yet unclear but expect them to follow closely the tried-and-tested mantra of Lotus founder Colin Chapman, meaning that they will be light, small and a hoot to drive.

Furthermore, the report by Autocar goes on to state that Caterham and Fernandes’ other venture, Team Lotus, will now have a connecting path between them. This could see the Team Lotus Formula One cars featuring Caterham branding while the Caterham machines of the future could benefit from Formula One technology.

We're not expecting Sevens with regenerative braking or electric hybrid engines to pop out soon but given that new models are in the pipeline, those could very well be designed from scratch to incorporate the Formula One tech that might be shared with them.
