Ken,

I not turbo god like SDF,

Heres wat I know.

First of all, you must decide wat you want from the turbo.

You want response or hi boost or can pull long, etc.

Each requirement have their own mods.

PS : Opppsss, I accidentally clicked edit, I actually wanted to click reply, Sorry.

i want response,lesser lag.planning to boost around 1.3 to 1.4 bar.

because i heard someone mod their stock turbo like changing fin and so on.just wanna know what modification can be done and is it advisable.

let me know what turbine u running in
then i can show u some sites on what they modded on it :)
i suspect u run on td05hr ?

Faster response and can boost higher?

I think you should change or port the compressor housing and change to larger impallers (trim wheel).

DO not change the stock exhaust housing and turbine.

what mods can be done if i want to be able to pull long?

also i herd ppl say u can actually mod the fins or some internal parts to make turbo spoling sound louder, is that true?

Louder spool?

DOn't use Air filter. :D

Pull longer?

If not mistaken, change/port to larger exhuast housing without touching the compressor side.

is there any down side by porting the housing.. e.g. gain more in pulling but loose more in....?

not using filter i think not reasonable la.. i ask becos i was in a vtec turbo with ball bearing turbine and the sound is amazing.. just like in an aircraft.. he was using apexi open pod but i think thats not the only reason is it ecos of bal bearing turbo?

Ball bearing spools at least 500rpm faster. Spool louder? no idea.

any idea where can do this and what the price?

Ken,

Ipoh I don know.

But KL, got few good places. But I strongly support Tong.

I think you have to get spare turbo because it takes 1 day at least.

Cost, for my Garrett T25, it was RM200~300 at Tong.

Tong quite lansi on the phone. If you call and ask this and ask that, he won't tiew you wan.

THe best is go to his shop and talk to the man face to face. Quite frenly.

Go talk to him and tell him wat you want.

He will give you good advise.

Nice guy he is.

wahh u want repsonse, lesser lag, planning to boost around 1.3 to 1.4 but only talk about turbo ??

got other stuff to look into la besides turbo la dude

i am guessing u r using a 4g63 engine. but dunno which model.

so i am assuming u r using evo1-3 la. actually all the same one.but here are some cheap alternative that can push ur evo/vr4 engine horsepower to 300hp++

1.change block to vr4 rs

2.change to oversize throttle body (>64mm)

3. change injector (>510cc)

4.twin blade td05h (ask tong to hybrid 20g and above)

5.metal gasket (1.5mm also enough)

6. wastegate(very important if u boost high >1.2 bar)

7.block evo3

8.coat ur piston with ceramic (normally done in australia)

9.use haltech management

10.

most people dunno that vr4 engine can boost higher than evo engine due to thicker block. but the problem with vr4 is that it has heavy internals.

thats why if u hybrid evo head with vr4 block and use ceramic coated piston(which can stand very high temperature and thus higher boost), u can even go higher than 1.7 bar. confirm

mirage intake manifold has same length as vr4 but it is shorter in length. air flow is quicker.

change also the turbo to 20g la. tong very pro in turbo modification.i recommend him gile2.if got extra money then go for ball bearing garret la. but i would suggest u hybrid only. the garret turbo mostly cost rm4000 at N1. crazy man!!

metal gasket is also very important for higher boost.

once u go for 1.2 bar and above, u have to have external wastegate(above 45mm ok already).

im driving evo 4.got 1.2mm gasket.272 cam,management on the way,255lpph pump,560cc injector,38mm external wastegate,etc.

so whats your opinion?i want it to be on safe side, dun boost few times need to change engine.

thanks

tai kor..

straight away drop in a GT28 or GT30...full ball bearing and it really kicks ass...
the problem for your TD05HR is that...there isn't an aftermarket compressor wheel as it is reverse rotation...since you've got most of the goodies in oredi, i strongly suggest you go for the GT30...good for daily driven..
