if ur meter are using meter, then there's no choice but to change to a sensor based meter...but if ur meter is sensor based, u can try look for the sensor for the gearbox there and then connect it to the meter...

Bro, sensor readings is more accurate than cable. Plus less mechanical equal less problem with readings. Cable type speedo have a common problem after some time of use. The needle will tend to move up and down during low to medium speed giving unaccurate readings.

Well cars with ABS system will have 4 wheel speed sensor attached at the outer CV joint. Its a magnetic type speed sensor.

It sends pulses of electric signal to the ECU so that the ECU will kow what's the car's current speed. It's also connected to the ABS system.

Well, most cars running on EFI will use wheel speed sensor even the car don't have ABS.

but some cars that still runs on cable even if its on EFI. eg. Toyota Unser (M), Hiace. Ithink proton cars with EFI still using cable rite ?

cable reading is taken from the gearbox.

yeah, from gearbox, and depends on what engine you use, some cable sensors can't withstand high power as my mech told me. His 4ag turbo had problem with this sensor cuz if he crank up the boost and lauch the car hard (and skidding ofcourse) the speedo will suddenly just drop and the sensor need replacement o_o;;

i'm using sensor at the gearbox too, 4age20v, in ke70. but i do not have speed sensor behind my dashboard, so the ecu dunno how fast i'm going... o_o;; i read abit about this, guess the only difference is that the check light will be on all the time and no speed cut..

Sorry to all. I did a mistake on my previous posting. Cars with ABS has 4 wheel speed sensor aka ABS sensor but not for speedo reading but its use to inform the ECU the difference in speed of 4 wheels. There's another sensor for speedo reading which is attached to the gearbox.

Below are some pics that i took for a clearer view of how ABS sensor and speedo reading sensor.

1. Cable type speedo reading of a Toyota Unser (AT/MT)
2. OD switch sensor available on AT cars only.
3. Sensor type speedo reading of a Toyota Innova see its attached to the gearbox end.
4. ABS sensor aka wheel speed sensor (Toyota Innova)
5. Complete view of ABS sensor. (Toyota Altis)

6. See the toothed gear inside the hole ? thats where the ABS sensor get its reading of each tyre speed.
