Looks like the Audi Quattro will be making the leap from prototype to production, following one spotted cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. The car was being escorted by the California Highway Patrol to a photo shoot and was even sporting the design-studio plates.

A reader of Jalopnik.com that happened to cross paths with the Quattro managed to get a word in with the vehicles minder and they confirmed that the car is indeed headed for the production line.

There was even a classic Quattro in red tailing along, presumably for the photo shoot.

If Volkswagen stays true to its word on intending to splash $72 billion by 2015 in an effort to surpass Toyota as the world's largest automaker, then there's no reason that the Quattro could be shortchanged at the last minute. The drool is dripping off our tongues at the prospect of a Quattor terrosing the streets again.
