The cover is finally off the much speculated Audi Quattro concept car that will be unveiled officially at the Paris Motor Show which kicks off tomorrow. Built with inspiration from the original 1980 Audi Ur-Quattro, the concept rests on modified underpinnings from the current RS5 but with a nipped wheelbase, lower roofline and weight of under 1.36-tons.

Under the hood, motivation comes from a powerplant that pays homage to the original. A turbocharged inline-five is mated to a six-speed manual, up a cog from the original, and pumps out 408hp and 480Nm of torque. Of course, all that power reaches the ground through the Quattro torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system setup with a 40:60 rear-biased split. Interestingly, the power-to-weight ratio of the concept is similar to the R8 5.2 FSI.

The interior though has been given the once over and features leather-wrapped Sparcos. Just for the concept, Audi’s MMI infotainment system is available but with the addition of some extra screens that would come in handy in a rally. Classically-styled round gauges and a page for pace notes set this apart from the regular MMI systems.

On the exterior, the trademark Audi LED lights are present but this time around, the headlights can adjust their direction vertically and horizontally, apart from being able to open fully or close to a menacing slit. Perhaps the wildest styling cue would be the huge vent on the bonnet that really adds some edginess to the façade.
