Turbo Maintainance

apparently, you seem to have answered your own question.

:D

Though, to me, IMHO, white smoke is an indication either in the mornings when the engine is cold or the engine is about to 'kaput'.

yeah white smoke in the morning when the engine is cold is normal la,tht one i know la... :)
hahaa,i think you're rite la bro  its just tht i was a bit worried la,so wanted to seek opinions from others la

hi all....having a debate wif my fren....he says turbo must service....cause can "clog"....i'm sayin juz regular maintenance and normal TLC is enuff....so is it true muz take out the turbo and clean otherwise it'll clog somewhere in the system?

thanks :)

ok we were talking about me not wanting to get a turbo car for now cos of the cost of maintenance, that it will be more than an NA car, and i dont think i can afford it.

he was not agreeing wit me that turbo engines do need regular service.

I was saying that turbo engines needs to be serviced at regular intervals to maintain its performance and reliability. Service meaning maybe just to check if everything is ok and not needing to change anything....but that incurs labour/workmanship costs too...which i think would be more than servicing a regular NA engine...which adds up to maintenance cost

and i didn't mention anything about taking out turbo and clean.
?????

perhaps someone can share some opinion on this.

cheers

Well, what i know is that if your motor is overhauled, I mean change of parts just as a new engine, then a full syn motor oil will be good. Example: a new car can always use full syn from day 1 and won't suffer oil loss. I had been using Mobil 1 Full Syn since 3 years ago (on new car) change oil every 12000-15000 km, no problem, no lessen oil level, and I travel at high speed a lot, in highway usually at 160-180kmh. Car is a Elantra 1.8 auto. My mileage now is nearly 100k already.

Thanks

maintenance cost is higher in a sense that turbo engines need more frequent oil change than N/A cars la,doesnt matter you use full syn or semi syn oil,it is recommended u change the oil every 3000-5000km. and u gotta check on the engine oil level frequently as well, especially if u travel a lot on highways, for my gsr,the oil level is bound to drop everytime i travel on the highway.and u gotta check on the water level frequently also la,turbo engines much hotter mah...u don wanna find out last minit when your car overheat then only u realise water level is low rite?
other than that i think its pretty much the same as N/A cars la....seldom got ppl take out the turbine n service it also la...too much of a hassle i think, most just use until it konk la
just my 2 cents :)

Itab's right about almost everything. Though, only reason why I see some people service their turbine is because they drag and they put a very high boost for their car ... don't get me wrong, these aren't Sepang draggers but some who just like these sorta settings this way.

how about...if u turbocharged your NA engine...

well done jobs la, not those bawah pokok ceri jobs. proper setup, low boosting at 0.4~0.5 bar only. what would maintenence be like? similar to any other turbocharged engine?

should be similiar gua....safer to service it more regularly than N/A engines la,low boost also still boosting mah...my opinion la :)

AGREED LOW BOOST BUT STILL BOOSTING..AT LEAST CAN EXCEED 0.3 BAR!!!!!

LONG LIVE BOLT ON TURBOS RACER!!!!!

for me, also just the normal maintenance. Nothing special... just to use better engine oil. Check on all the fuels more often la... like brake, power steering, clutch etc... erm.... correct me if i'm wrong...

use Q8 motor oil......not bad.........can get it in major performance shops......

or if wanna know d major differences wit other brand motor oil can PMs me lo....i can ask d distributor..... :P
