Super Trofeo race cars bring the heat to Sepang!

Last weekend saw the sensational debut to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race series at the Sepang International Circuit. Essentially, this is a gentleman’s race where drivers can enter individually or in teams of two, to compete behind the wheel of a bespoke Lamborghini Super Trofeo race car in what is dubbed as the world’s fastest one-make series. A total of 18 teams were confirmed to participate, spanning from Singapore, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and of course Malaysia. This race debuts for the first time in Asia and will make their mark on some of the finest circuits in the region; stopping at Sepang, Fuji, Ordos, Zhuhai, Penbay, with the Grand Finale at Shanghai in November.

If you missed our previous report on this race series, you might be asking how the race works. Well, the format for the entire season includes a 50 minutes practice session that allows drivers to familiarize themselves with the track, before entering a 35 minutes qualifying race. Subsequently, there are two official races – each 50 minutes long. There is a compulsory driver change between minutes 20 to 30 in both official race, that should add to the excitement as teams need to strategize to ensure they remain (or gain!) in the lead.

Below are the results of the race from last weekend:

Race 1:
1. Liu / Rizzo (#37), China
2. Wiser (#66), China
3. Charlz (#99), Singapore

Since it was a Lamborghini event, it was expected that the carpark would be teaming with Bulls. We popped down to have a quick look and did not leave disappointed...
