the most powerful Celica to roll out of Toyota is the Sports M, 200bhp 2ZZ, MT
the 5sp MT & 4sp AT RX-8 has only 189bhp
the 6sp MT RX-8 Type-S has 247bhp
the 6sp AT RX-8 has 212bhp

so it depends what were you comparing with. the best Celica to the weakest RX-8, not much of a contest really.
hmm.. HP wise yeah.. RX8.. but what bout weight? its not just better power weight ratio but also safe fuel..

RX8 manual weights between 1309~1373kg depending on trim level. Type S is 1310kg for example. Celica should be around ~1100kg depending on trim as well.

please don't get me wrong. Celica is a very practical car, easy to maintain, easy to run, no fuss and relatively easy to drive (FF). RX-8 is very unpractical, super fuel guzzler and in the hands of a noob in a wet corner it can get dangerous (most drivers are used to FF, means braking in corner if things don't go too well).

that being said, RX-8 would be more sporty IMO -- being an FR. the last gen Celica has been nerfed by Toyota for emission reasons, and its a far cry from its rally roots of ST185. The Mazda on the other hand was no holds barred, Mazda put everything that had and in stock factory form it was so close to the RX-7 without a turbo ~20bhp less on paper.

just my personal opinion, doesn't mean i'm right

Bro,

I owned a Rx8 6spd MT (Type-S) Hi-Power Spec from Japan and now a Celica 6spd Superstrut.

Power
Rx8

On paper and on Engine is 250 bhp and 240nm tq.
My Dyno (after ECU reflash with N1 Racing, decat, straight flow exhaust) was 180+whp and 200nm tq. (not very happy, but common)

Celica
On paper 190bhp and 170nm tq.
My Dyno (with some NA mods): 177whp, 180+nm tq. (very happy)

Celica has impressive figures due to less drive train power loss.

Rx8 vs Celica (pros and cons)
1. Rx8 famous Suicide doors: easy to get in and out. Really much easier. But space wise, similar to Celica.
2. Rx8 Interior nicer. (but my celica after interior touch up now can fight.)
3. both look good but I think rx8 stock looks better than celica stock. But with bodykit like mine now...Celica looks sharp.
4. Rx8 has Rear wheel drive (if you like losing your tail) But dangerous if you are not good at handling it. Can really use on normal driving. Celica front wheel drive is easier to use and play with. Safer if you are lose grip at corner on wet road like malaysia.
5. Rx8 Slightly more powerful but also a little heavier and lots of drivetrain power loss. Celica less drivetrain loss. So in real life, a modded NA celica an fight or might even win.
6. Rotary is a unique engine. Very smooth like running on double cream. Very linear power curve. Rev very light. Fun to drive. Celica engine also fun because got 'Lift' like Vtec at 6K rpm all the way to 8.2K rpm.
7. Rx8 hard to add power and very expensive too. Mazda has extracted almost every single bhp out of the tiny rotary. Any attempts = reliability issue. My friends Turbo Rx8 can only do about 180 - 200km per full tank. no joke.
8. Rx8 High Fc. Full tank (50liters) can do about 320km. and 280 hard driving. Celica can do about 500 - 600km per tank (50 liters too).
9. Rx 8 need to add engine oil every 2 full tanks of petrol or about 2000km driving. If forget, burnt engine. That's why a lot of girl owned Rx8 sold to us need to overhaul.
10. Rx8 Overhaul dam expensive. Must prepare cash Rm20,000, if you plan to buy a used Rx8. Most rx8 needs overhaul after about say 100K km if lucky. If not, 70K km = overhaul. Celica, overhaul is unusual and only cost maybe Rm3k - 4K for major overhaul.
11. Rx8 not everyone can fix. Need to go to real specialist. Celica, most good mechanics can do it.
12. Handling wise, both rx8 and superstrut Celica quite similar.
13. Rx8 can modify for drift. Celica cannot.
14. Rx8 has in my opinion more reliability issues, esp the Autos. Celica, well it's a toyota and the 7th Gen is ranked as one of the top 10 most reliable car somewhere i can't remember. google and you will find. reliabilityindex.com or something.
15. Rx8 is more of a weekend car, not a every-day-drive-to-work-without-worry-car. I had to always worry about not being able to start my rx8 b4 work. Could not start many times, sent to specialist. He said no problem. still can't start occasionally. No one can help. Sold it to start business. Celica? No such worries. Drive everyday.

For fun and passion for the only rotary powered sports car in the world: Go for Rx8. (but you must like the car enough to not drive it that often and fix it)

For an enjoyable, quite fast and nice looking (lowered with bodykit) sports coupe: Go for celica. (you want more power? Mild Force Induction for reliability) visit celicaclubmalaysia facebook to see some nice looking celicas.

My vote goes to Celica.

When related to fuel, buy myvi la else honda jazz hybrid or New saga. WTF wanna buy a sport car and take FC into consideration? Want fast, buy a EG and drop in a B16B and lighten the car body why bother to spent more on a car that cannot beat a cheaper car? If want everything, why not save up more money and get a CRZ then slap a turbo kit on or even transplant a K20A engine.

For some correction, RX8 6MT can do 300km with less than half tank of fuel on highway and the tank is 60L. Even with 4.77 final drive can do 300km with 1/2 tank fuel. The rest please visit RX8 Club Malaysia and find the information by yourselves. For Celica, please search for celica club. I think there are too many experts' replies and looks like everyone also can easily become experts nowadays. For making life easier, just buy a mini cooper S and call it a day. Rotary car definitely more picky on the driver/owner. Except wallet, it also require some technical background. Else complaints will be endless.

Does Altezza looks like sports car? You don't need to look like one to be categorise as sports car. To me,
Celica still looks like sports car, drives like one too if nicely modded.

According to reports, Lamborghini could be looking to walk down the same road as Porsche and a few other prominent automakers by adding new models in anticipation of expanding sales and exploring new markets.

American magazine, Car and Driver is claiming that Lamborghini will be adding two entirely new models to its existing lineup.

The first will be a new entry level model, powered by a V8 powerplant...
