all this while been using manual even for previous car...might need to switch to auto soon due to old age....

Driving both. Mostly manual but when outstation with auto will be on steptronic.....

Nowadays there are very new cars that come with manual trans, and most come with 5-speed 'box. Very few have 6-speed, like FD2R, Megane 250RS, which is out of reach for folks like me...

due to old age? hah... my dad has been driving manual up till the age of 60+. Had to change to auto after he fell sick and legs aren't that strong anymore. Mind you he was driving his Merc 230 E Manual transmission (the 80s model I think) in KL, in JB and also back and forth from KL - JB - KL hehehe.

Besides, orang putih punya term old is above 75 hahahah.

Send a friend to Thean Hou Temple last tuesday. Road up is so jam I could smell my poor clutch heated.
Decided to ditch clutch play and use hand brake instead.
I regret my decision not to drive my daily ride with auto transmission .
Saw few old Saga taxi 'resting' at the top too.

My uncles aunties I met during CNY all late 60s early 70s years old.

Most if not all dont look old as grandmas or grandpas,

Some still driving manual cars...

Nowadays, I think we should shift the definition of old to 80 years old then....

I still prefer manual over auto although it is relaxing to drive auto car. The thing about auto car is it reacts slow, I've been driving an Inspira and Camry and I feel both of them are abit slow on the reaction side if you were to put your foot down the pedal, btw I think the Camry reacts slower than the Inspira.. Never tried other auto cars before other might have a better reaction time?

I really enjoyed driving my manual AE101, in fact sometimes I think I enjoyed too much cos I used to change the gears at higher RPM, forced to go to the petrol station like 2 to 3 times a week. $$$$ burn.

I think having both an auto and a manual car at home is better :D can enjoy the pros of both side.

Probably drive by wire lag, so can add sprint booster.....

yes, auto cars do haf a slow reaction in term of response.
so the key here is to know how to control the reaction with the throttle pedal.

last weekend i test drive the new proton preve cfe (the turbo version).
the initial step on the pedal can feel it is quite slow, harder to move.
heard proton do that to ensure their car pass the emission test for europe market. :hmmmm:

i even tried doin the 0-100 test using my phone stopwatch.around 11.9sec.cause the initial movement was very slow.
but the 7 speed gearbox was quite interesting.
when on auto, the transmission changing gear was not noticeable at all.

Gear change not noticeable could be because its a CVT gearbox (Continuosly Variable Transmission)

Recently Merz had 5 speed auto, then Honda Accord had 6 speed, now Preve got 7 speed?

My understanding of the new Preve is you need to rev the guts out of the car to get any decent performance. If you launched at a higher rpm to get the torque to come in earlier would it have affected 0-100 times?

Aiya, CVT isn't a strong gearbox system. I wouldn't recommend thrashing a CVT gearbox mainly because of a belt inside the GB itself. Any belt driven system isn't going to be very durable in terms of hard thrashing. Only good thing about CVT imho is the seamless transmission changes and the excellent fuel economy.

Torque convertors are the way to go! But unfortunately too much power robbed by the whole thing. But if not mistaken modern torque convertors (or those based on the same tech) are much more efficient.

Have not driven one, but I thought they have same turbo engine of the Exora, and since smaller thought they were more powerful....:hmmmm:

haf to agree not to thrash a cvt gearbox.
but i also feel need to launch at a higher rpm to get a good momentum for the 0-100 timing.
just trying it out to see if it lives up to wat proton claims.less than 9sec if i m not wrong.
myb i was too soft on the pedal...
