yeah Dino was rite, which explains why Honda came up with Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Camshaft Lift system in late 80s; derived from their F1 technology.
also known as VTEC, it was design to run 8 valves at lower speed for better pulling power, but as speed increases all 16 valves operates giving advantage of stronger top end over 8 valves engine.
theoretically, DOHC engines develop more top end power against SOHC. this was proven by Fiat and Alfa Romeos during racing in 60's if not mistaken.
there are engines that run with Four Cams also. he he example is Perdana E54's V6 DOHC. or Naza Ria's 2.5 DOHC with 3 timing belt.
and some engines do not have even a single camshaft. these includes 2 strokers like fitted in lawn mowers, generators or mopeds...of kapchaiss.
and rotary engines.
