Hello,

As we know, when we bring our Mazda to Bermaz and they will use Shell lubricants, either Ultra or HX7 but these 2 are 5W40 and 10W40

I remember I read somewhere that Mazda 2 should use 5W30 and not 5W40, unfortunately this information was not available in Malaysia Mazda 2 owner manual.

Does anyone know anything about this ?

Thank you.

The thing is when you send back to SC for service can you use your own oil?
Where did you read Mazda 2 using 5w-30?

Why go experimenting and listening to other source about which oil to use?

The oil type is already recommended by the Malaysia SC. Even the owner's manual would state the engine oil type.
Unless Mazda SC is secretly scheming all owners and recommended an inferior oil type....

hmmmm, secret oil from Mazda maybe?

Even my Toyota SEG's owner manual (20+ years) indicates the type of fluids to use for engine oil, brake oil, steering oil, coolant...Of course, the car engine so old oredi, I had to pandai pandai select a thicker engine oil...

After warranty anything goes loh! My wife's SUV sent to SC, can use their oil only. Now after warranty service outside use what I want.....hahahaha

Back to TS Mazda 2, most SC don't allow outside oil in case any warranty claim.....

yeah, they want to protect their own business....That is why there are soooo many Cs in the service center these days.
More service they provide, more they can charge their customers....

the owner manual provided by mazda malaysia does not specifically says which viscosity is suitable.
In fact they gave the whole viscosity chart only.

I am referring to mazda thailand owner manual because i think malaysia and thailand has similar climate, should be ok. I know Mazda USA says we should use 5w20 but i think this is not suitable for malaysia.

5W30 and 5W40 isn't that far off la. Either one will do.
dude, i think it's totally different.
30 and 40 is the viscosity when the engine heats up. If the engine should use 5w30 but we used 5w40 then the engine oil might be too "thick" to reach every part in the engine, and the engine will be very "heavy" too....

Modern engine oil is designed to be usable and tolerant under a range of engine temperature.
Unless your car is a supercar, F1, Top-fuel car, etc....that rely heavily on peak performance......yes, specific oil is required.

But for everyday driving, then "close enough" engine oil grade is good enough.
Even mineral engine oil is good for daily driving....

Follow chart also wrong. 5w-30 from -30 deg C to 15 deg C only?

Hmmm.....the temp range (degree) indicated based on the oil viscosity in lab environment ka?

if ambient temp, this means the viscosity numbers are good for cold engine start-up.

Yup, the lower the lighter. Anyway w is for winter, which we don't have, so for us is cold start....:burnout:
If you have a look at the data sheets vs our malaysian weather, all we truly need is 10w only. Anything less is just overkill.

Dude, I know. I'm referring to the operating temps vs viscosity vs engine tolerances. Whether you use w40 or w30 in a standard engine it won't be significant enough to feel. I know how engine oil works, and there's no such thing as engine oil being too thick to reach the engine components. Even if you use 20W50 the oil will reach all parts of your engine. Just a matter of how viscous it is and how much effort is needed for the engine to move with that viscosity. If you're on a balanced engine then I would recommend the 5W30 only (or lighter) but since your car is stock, W40 also won't make a difference la.

That's why I don't really care is it 5W or 10W, doesn't matter at all
I am more concern with the figure behind.

Yes, it takes more effort to move which means it could damage the mechanism that should move smooth and also might cause improper oil pressure because it doesn't move as how engine was design.

Correct me if i am wrong.

That is why when my friends go for 0W-40 I always tell them no need for Malaysian weather....

Nah! not that heavy until mechanism can be damaged leh!
I have tested oil from 30 to 60 weight, 5w-30. 5w-40. 5w-50 and 10w-60. My engine still running after more than 10 years. Since my engine runs on hydraulic lifters for tappets, 30 weight is too light, the tappets becomes very noisy. 40 weight seems an ideal viscosity. 50 still ok, but 60 is heavy

Aiya......no need so worry-worry about engine oil. So long it is reputable engine oil, can use oredi...

Even we human, sometimes oso need to eat other brand of rice, if the usual rice brand out of stock....ehehehe

maybe the TS is an engineer in lubricants.....So, everything must be precise, as per specification. By the book, by the number.

In that case actually no need worry, even car manufacturer did not mention in car manual......hhahahhahahha:biggrin:

Random Post Every 5 Minutes

Missed out on an appointment last Saturday with a forum member due to this detailing journey.

What started off as a partial coating became a full blown coating. Was discussing with the owner's husband and had an understanding to coat only the front bumper and front bonnet.

Ended up with an entire car coated because I did not want the car to have two tones of white over time.

Car was brand spanking new ..... not spanking but still a 1st hand car. Owner have long salivate to own this...
