It's no secret that Lotus is expected to introduce up to five new models at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. Among these five new concepts are two new front-engined GT models, a roadster, the new Esprit and a mystery model taunted to be a new supercar to take on the likes of Ferrari, Mclaren and Lamborghini.

Well, according to reports online, Lotus has officially confirmed the latter.

The Malaysian-owned, Norfolk-based sports car company has revealed its new show car will be "perhaps even more" than a replacement for the mid-engined Esprit supercar. But that's not to say that the Esprit wont happen, it will, it just wont be the range-topping model it once was. The duty of being the icing on the cake now falls upon the new, soon-to-be-released, model that we will see at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The new Lotus management team, led by ex-Ferrari commercial boss Dany Bahar, have already said that they will be taking the brand more upmarket for all future products, and we believe this new model marks the beginning of a new era for Lotus.

Lotus have already been working on the Esprit replacement model for the past three years or so, expect that to arrive first and then the new Lotus supercar.

The previous generation Lotus Esprit first began production in 1976 and production ceased after 18 years and 10,700 Esprit's in 2004. It still is one of the most highly sought Lotus models around.
