Dear All,

I've just transplanted a 4G93 (DOHC) into my 1.6XLi Wira. However, the power is not as expected and I felt that it's doesn't have any improvement of power !! What could have happened ?

I transplanted the auto tranny version and i still ratain the same exhaust system (from extractor till the end). I just want my ride to be a lil' quicker, something similar to those Honda Civic 1.7Vti. Not those monster rides. Could you guys just suggest what could have happened or what are the things could i take note ?

Regards,
CK Siow

flush ur AT box and engine to remove all the sludges.....etc stuck inside

clean ur intake manifold or upgrade to high flow air filter. KNN for example...

for ekzos, try to use bigger piping....since u r using back the old ekzos system...just worry it wil restrict the air..

i would suggest you change the exhaust first. once changed it will give a good increase in power and will make your engine feel a lot better.

cksiow,
Lets start v some basic things n c whether it improves! I'll list down a few things u should do:

1) Spark Plug(iridium)
2) NGK/Ultra plug cables
3) Open Pod/ Hi Flow Drop in Air Filter
4) Bigger throttle body(go for mivec throttle body)
5) Adjustable cam pulley(to tweak it a bit for better respond)
6) Adjustable fuel regulator
7) Exhaust system(go for a exhaust system tat fits ur AT)
8) Rechip or piggyback ur ecu

Try do tis mod n c whether u r satisfy v the power!Cheers

Thanks for the tips and tricks. I think, for the mean time I shall deal with those minimal stuff like Spark Plugs and it's Cable first. I wanna know how's the raw power of this engine. Otherwise, it would be a waste of money if it's stock form performs like my old 1.6.

Does the engine tunable without any extra gadgets? ( Meaning my car is all stock stuff, no fancy SAFC , exhaust system or what-so-ever). Because my mechanic told me that he still haven't tune my car yet. That day when I visited them, they just rolled out my car from the garage.

PocketRocket,
I would appreciate the NA's linear response more. Also, the fuel economy :P this would be my daily commuting tool. The reason i wanna transplant this eninge is to let her run happily and responsively.

Other Sifus,
What's the stock measurements for the 1.8GTI / PUTRA exhaust manifold ? How about the 1.6XLI ? Would really want to know does my power gets restricted due to this issue ? Really a newbie here, wanna explore and know more about each tiny bits of modification would give what sort of power improvement.

Gearbox using back 4G92 one ? How about ECU, Wiring all ??

Well since you already used to 1.6 SOHC and now with DOHC obviously the powerband is different.

To me... SOHC vs DOHC, SOHC will tend to have "faster" pickup/respond and as for DOHC you will really feel the power in mid/higher RPM...you would really enjoy the top end power....

As for exhaust, stick to the one from Wira 1.6 should be ok since if i am correct both 1.6/1.8 SOHC used same diameter exhaust. Else u can compare with Putra auto since i remember manual 1.8 DOHC have slightly bigger diameter exhaust size

g88,

I Bought the Half-Cut. Thus, gearbox , electrical wiring and all are from the 4G93 unit as well. Shall I change the brake rotors as well ? He says that the "hole" of the rotor doesn't matches mine. Can I retain my rotor but with the new Master Pump installed ? Will it improve my braking performance ?

Dino@Casper,
I still give him the benefit of a doubt first. Since the expectation of collection is on friday, I give him the time to deal with all the problems first. Later only I shall sound what is not right to him.

kob3bryant,
Like how should my Center Bullet should be ? I wanted a silent ride with a decent power.

true true.. if everyday driving 1.5 - 3k rpm sohc do feel more responsive. dunno lar but my experience is dohc drop below 2k like wan die only...

2 me most important thing when u do dis kind of convertion is an adjustable fuel regulater...

get 1 an tune ur ride 1st.. to get the raw power...

torque should start at +- 3k rpm...

Alright, I've got my car back and gave it a run last night. Here goes my report of what I've felt / Noticed :

1. Don't need to floor the pedal too much to achieve the similar acceleration (town driving).
2. As what e819 claims , the 1.8 DOHC surely pulls away from the 1.6 SOHC at the higher revs.
3. When I slow down myself on a slope(descend), the transmission will automatically shift down from 4th to 3rd. Feels like the similar system find in Honda CR-V.
4. Speed CUT at 180kph.
5. Engine runs at a higher temp.

Maybe due to higher expectations, thus i made the previous claim of "no improvement" . However, I still find that the Civic 1.7Vti (7th Generation) has a better response (everyday driving mode). Maybe due to the "smarter" transmission system that down-shifts when in need?

Oh yea, as i noticed those Putras, they have a double pipe ending exhaust. Does that have any difference compared to my single ended exhaust ? I still have the craving for a slight more power :tongwink: .

Please all Sifus, enlighten me on how to get more juice out of my 4G93. I would prefer a more responsive downshifts or early torque. Also, may i know what's the rated HP and the rev-cut point of a stock 4G93 ?

Many Thanks,
CK Siow

whoa....I'm not thinking to have such a major mod. Just a light modification to the exhaust which can give me more power and a silent ride at the same time.

Hi cksiow,

IMO, you don't need to do anything drastic 1st. Mine is a manual 1.6l Wira and was quite sluggish. What I did was just change my stock 1.6 rear muffler to an ori 1.8 ones (read: twin pipe) bought 2nd hand from a fellow forummer.

1st thing I noticed after pasang the thing was exhaust note was lower (prrrrr instead of pssst). Next thing is highway cruise is more relaxed and FC improved quite significantly. But I drive like an ahpek on the highway so your result (if you want to change) may vary.

IMO, the ori 1.6 muffler was very restrictive to gas flow at anything above 2.5k (for 4G92P that is). So when I changed mine to a twin tip ones, gas flowed better at higher engine speed thus better FC as compared to last time (using ori 1.6 muffler). I normally cruise within legal h/w speed i.e. below 110km/h @ around 3k rpm.

Hope you find this useful.

Regards.
