Traffic congestion around the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is expected to drastically increase during the Formula One race over the 8-10 April weekend. In lieu of that, the traffic police have laid out some changes in traffic flow movement around the SIC area that includes counter flow stretches towards the LCCT area.

On the race day of 10 April, an additional lane of six kilometres will be created for traffic heading to LCCT. This extra lane will begin from the roundabout near the KLIA mosque at KM 1.4 of Jalan Pekeliling by means of a counter-flow. The flow would then move back into its normal route at KM 7.1, which is at the traffic light junction after the circuit.

The race is scheduled to start at 4pm and should be finished by 5.30pm. Following that will be the podium ceremony and the concert by Korean pop star, Rain.

From 4.30pm onwards, that counter-flow will be reversed to provide additional lanes for vehicles departing that area after the race’s conclusion.

Further changes to the traffic flow will include a part-closure of Jalan Salak Tinggi-Sepang, the main road that leads to the entrance of the circuit’s paddock building. The stretch from the traffic light to the turn leading to the paddock entrance will be made as a one-way street for April 10. Traffic from Salak heading to LCCT and KLIA will need to detour left from the entry of Parking PG3, which would take them to the traffic light leading to LCCT.

“There would be a total of 250 police personnel working during the event. I urge all road users to follow their instructions so that we could ensure traffic flow to be as smooth as possible,” said SIC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ahmad Razlan Ahmad Razali during the announcement of the traffic counter-flows.

Parking will be on a first come first served basis. Fans needn’t worry about parking too far away from their allocated seats as shuttle buses will be on hand to ferry them around the circuit.

Razlan advised the spectators to utilise public transport for the race weekend, adding that SIC is working with Skybus and ERL/Cityliner in providing these services.
