Always thought you could drive a Formula 1 car? Think you can out drive the likes of Takuma Sato, Ralf Schumacher and Alex Wurx (nevermind Hamilton, Raikkonen, or Alonso)? Well, here is your chance to show up at a local track day, in this case Sepang, and have a crack at the current track record, currently held by Juan Pablo Montoya since 2004.
PF1 a British company specializes in selling and maintaining old F1 cars for personal track use. After their partnership with engine technology specialist Cosworth, PF1 has acquired several late-model Jorndas, Jaguars (pictured above) and Super Aguri race cars and they will offer potential customers training which is conducted by Marc Hynes, a man who was once responsible for training Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton.
“In a nutshell the idea is that we’re going to bring to the wealthy but not necessarily super-rich motorsport enthusiast the opportunity to own and run a late model F1 car, without any of the associated problems,” PF1 founder Paul Osborn told ITV Sport.
Believe it or not the engines are more powerful than the current 2.4 liter V8 engines (yes, that means Ferrari too). These old generation customer F1 cars are powered by the older generation V10 engines, which are technically larger, more powerful and more tractable than the current ones being professionally raced by Hamilton and gang.
Here’s the best part and the part you have been waiting for, how much? Well sir, the entire package plus USD$5,050 for membership to the Club PF1 will be USD$610,050. Would you like a helmet with that sir? And how about a pit crew? You make the decision while I go get you the paddock girls. Not a problem at all.
