is it possible to remove the CV joint from the drive shaft without taking the whole shaft out from the transmission?

the last time i did this DIY, I took the whole shaft out. now, i have to change the gaiter (CV boot/cover) again, i wonder if the CV joint can be removed while maintaining the shaft in the transmission. it'd make the work easier and there wont be any loss of transmission fluid.

anybody knows the answer? is it possible?
