Hi there guys,

This my first post, I have just bought a Mitsubishi 2002 Lancer touring wagon with 4G93T 1.8 gdi and when I go up a slight incline the engine pinks or detenates, the highest octane fuel I can get here is 95.
Can I retard the timing on this engine myself, is the crank angle sensor behind the covers down by the bottom pulley and is it adjustable.
Any other reasons why it could be pinking, it obvoiusly hasnt always done this.

Really enjoying the forum any ideas.

hi, yes u can retard the timing and see if it helps. its either dat, or the knock sensor is already kaput

Thank you xtremeleo for your reply,

A bit of work to get to the crank angle sensor but I will give it a try, which way do I turn the sensor, clock wise or anti clock wise to retard the timing.

i believe its clock wise to retard, its either dat or the way dat will decrease the revv a bit...
