you'll need to wire it at the tcu. the one that engages the solenoid. there should be tonnes of wiring diagram online.
Did you mean the universal gear position indicator or stock BMW instrument ?
Thanks,
Ken

dont have to change cluster, the Dakota Universal Tachometer Signal Interface allows 4 to 6 cylinder calibration. My mechanic is using Dakota Universal Tachometer Signal Interface to read the RPM signal, i read from somewhere if my cluster is from a 4cyl BMW engine, the RPM signal may off by a little compared to a 6cyl. Should i try off with a 6cyl BMW E46 cluster ?
Thanks,
Ken
TCU is transmission control unit. not the lever position indicator.Did you mean the universal gear position indicator or stock BMW instrument ?

is it SGI-8E?Wow thanks, guess i will suggest the guy to try recalibrate again.
Thanks,
Ken
The SGI-8E is capable of recalibrating tachometer signals from 1 to 16 cylinder applications and anything in between!
is it SGI-8E?
can check the specs easily here: http://www.dakotadigital.com/index....t_id=127/category_id=694/mode=prod/prd127.htm
yea, probably he didnt know how to set, well there should be user manual in the webpage. tell us the progress. hahaYes it is, the mech is first time using Dakota, i will let him know of this, right now i think the signal still reads 4 cylinders.
Thanks,
Ken
tap the wire at the TCU from the indicator. unless u buy those with can bus like this one from cartek: https://www.cartekmotorsport.com/digital-gear-indicator/I meant, did you mean to wire the TCU to another universal gear indicator or stock instrument cluster ?
Thanks,
Ken

my old 4g9x/6x mitsubishi/protons, we have this shift box from forced four that we can use to bypass the solenoid and do manual shifting. http://www.forcedfour.com/index.html. i've been researching on this but dont have the time and budget to it on my car yet.
not cheap. GBP110. http://www.cartek-store.com/Catalogue/Cartek-Motorsport-Electronics/GEAR-INDICATORSHow much it cost for the digital gear indicator ? I am interested !
Thanks,
Ken
i dont know any local shops bring this kind of stuff for cars. there's the ones for bikes which i dont know how to wire it.Yup i do know about the price, but any local distributor ? Or other equivalent device ? Just want see my gear position so i am not prepare to spend over RM300 for such device.
Thanks,
Ken

you can search on mudah.my at motorcycle accessories and parts for gear indicator. there's a lot for bikes. but non for cars.
nice man, glad to see you'll be enjoying your car in no time! haha..Alright we managed to recalibrate the signal interface, now its reading is 660 - 670 steadily, according to my sources the reading should be somewhere near 680-700. For a converted vehicle, i would say its near perfect, so i will give it a rest for now and work on finalizing the housekeeping in the car. Its damn filthy after 3 months stuck in the garage.
Thanks,
Ken
should be same 12v. good luck! The mechanic suggested if the voltage of the indicator is same with car's one, then he can try to make it work. However it's a bit risky cause i hav to buy it and try, there's no loaning and try. I will try to buy a used indicator for experiment, if i am lucky, it should work.
Thanks,
Ken
