What’s the deal?
Here it is, the new Proton Ertiga. With the launch of the new compact MPV, it marks the end of a series of intensive launches from the national carmaker – the introduction list spans Perdana, Persona, Saga and Ertiga in June, August, September and November respectively.
Some background on the MPV, the Ertiga is a rebadged Suzuki Ertiga facelift. Yup, Proton retains the name from the donor car. The Ertiga will be manufactured in the carmaker’s Tanjung Malim plant and with knock down kits coming from Suzuki Indonesia.
Originally classified as a 7-seater MPV in Indonesia, the Ertiga however will be configured as a 6-seater to suit Malaysian safety regulations. Will it cannibalise the Exora? Well, Proton will continue selling the Exora but the bigger MPV is slotted in C-segment while the Ertiga is in B-segment.

The Ertiga is also the first Proton to be credited with EEV (Energy Efficient Vehicle) status; performing 5.7 litre per 100km (AT) and 6.0 litre per 100km (MT) of fuel consumption at a constant 90km/h cruise.
Exterior
Constructed on an extended Suzuki Swift platform, the Ertiga is measured at 4,265mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,685mm tall. 3 flavours available; Executive MT, Executive AT and the range-topping Executive Plus AT.
The MPV gets halogen reflector-type headlights, front and rear fog lights, electric-powered wing mirrors, rear parking sensors and 15-inch wheels with 185/65 rubbers across the range. There’s a chrome grille up front as well as a chrome bar in between the tail lights. The Ertiga comes in 4 choices of colours, namely Cotton White, Ruby Red, Carnelian Brown, and Metal Grey.

In the cabin, the MPV receives beige fabric upholstery and 2-tone interior (beige and light grey) to underpin the sense of spaciousness. The Ertiga is fitted with an integrated head unit with CD and USB player with 4 speakers.
Moving to the rear passenger area, there’s slideable middle row seats with 240mm range, 60:40 split-folding capability, 1-touch function for access to third row and 2 ISOFIX anchors. There’s also a ceiling-mounted rear air-con with blower control for the middle and third row passengers.

What does the Executive Plus gets you? The range-topping Ertiga adds on more bits like chrome trims on fog light housings and interior door handles, power-foldable wing mirrors, wing mirror mounted LED turn signals, height-adjustable driver’s seat, steering-mounted audio control and backseat pockets on both front seats.
