Simple answer: Yes ... The design in calculated for the Evo VII's, and may not be totally effective for other car ...

Vortex generators have been used in the aeronautical industry for ages. They are a proven phenomenon that helps to prevent laminar flow separation.

That said, I can't help but think that the VG on the MR is something that Mitsubishi adapted as a sales gimmick to help differentiate it from the GSR models. It works, but not too an extent that you'll actually miss it if it disappears one day.

True ... not unless you do over 100's km/h and needed the maximum effectivity of the spoiler. Wouldn't totally call it a gimmick if it works .... A gimmick is something badged the same (Vortec Generator) that fits into your intake system, or some magnetic fuel conditioner etc ...

You'll need to be doing a lot more than just 100km/h for the thing to be even remotely effective. You don't even begin to work the rear wing until at least 160km/h.

In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature.

Something like the your 'magnetic fuel conditioner' isn't a gimmick, that's downright fraud.
