Has, have & will always be copycats.....Untill today still cant even design & build a solid performance car or a normal family car without collaborating with other car manufacturers. 1960's US were building "American Muscle" cars and Proton still today is way behind by 50 light years...Well done Proton...others advance Proton are still in 1st gear...How pathetic & sad...
r u sure?

People seems to have greatly misled with the taxes imposed on imported cars. Well,if the gov decide to uplift the import tax, that would lead to a disruptive chain reaction. For example, insurance and roadtax (and perhaps income tax) gonna be way higher than current rate. So don't just calculate adjusted car prices, keep in mind other factors as well.

1 goes down, other goes up! Gov hav to balance out and maintain their figures.Shortage of income from imported car taxes, would be fill up by other sectors. It would be a massacre to our macroeconomic if we liberated car manufacturer sector when we're not properly ready to compete with international manufacturer. Think of it this way, Thailand financial sector in 1996-97. Complete meltdown. And that will happen if we were not to protect Proton.

Case study:
Example, in Uk. Yes,u can get a Maserati GT for a merely 55k pound sterling. Yet,why doesn't London's road full of supercars? If u do the math, a person with a monthly income of 3k per month (36k yearly),would easily take up car loans and buy a Maserati. But why isn't this the case? Income tax imposed 20-40% (monthly). Car loans (7-9.5%). Insurance (go google). Daily congestion charge within London 8.70 pound (for entering London city). No free sidewalk parking. Etc etc...

Dun be fooled by just car prices. Its just a fraction of a much grater cost, that we should be thankful. Just my humble opinion.

Front looks better than Lancer. But don't know why don't put a snail on the 2.0 model to justify the price

To be honest, I rather proton rebadge 3 series eagle eye or C class peanut eye :biggrin:

Haha, so damn funny reading all the fuzz. Who the f*** care if it's copy, rebadge, proton, mitsu emblem etc. I only want the 1.8 4B10 Mivec Manual. Mitsu sucks for not selling the manual version. Buy the manual and play with microtec, add camshaft etc. 5 years down the road, transplant EVO 10, damn. Manual 1.8 can tapau the 2.0 CVT easily.

Just read test drive by Motor Trader. They say very impressive on handling and built.
1.8 manual and 2.0 cvt on offer.
Its vios / city money for altis / civic.
Proton under Syed Zainal (ex perodua) is a different proton under Mahalel.
Does anyone realize?

History lesson is a must pass now!!
Japanese and Koreans were also copycats. Look at lexus with all the design cues from mercedes.
Should go tho China motorshow and see the real copycats!!
CRV clones, and a car with Exterior camry and interior from Honda! They practically copy instead of paying royalty.
Rebadge or base model ? It's a non issue in automotive industry.
Audi A3 / Seat Ibiza / Skoda Fabia are golf underneath.
Mazda 2 + Ford Fiesta
Kia once rebadge mazda car, the 121
Holden, vauxhall are GM rebagde.
Not to mention Alpina, Ruf, Brabus, Carlsson, Wald etc. Of course its different level from a volume base car.

So Other manufacturers can but proton cannot? Why?

Smart guys please?

Yeap, Subaru is owned by Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) and Toyota has a small % of shares in FHI.

The hot hatch just got hotter as Proton have introduced the R3 Satria Neo that has been sprinkled with magic dust from its in-house motorsport division, Race, Rally, Research (R3), to elevate the performance of the already impressive Satria Neo.

Distinctively recognisable by its Fire Red exterior that is completed by the roof painted black, the R3 Satria Neo is powered by the 1.6-liter Campro CPS engine...
