Before you get disappointed watching the full video, let me be the first to tell you that there isn't any drifting in this video, it only shows some track footage of Nobushige Kumakubo's new Team Orange Nissan Laurel that he will be hoping to debut somewhere in the early stages of the season.
The switch to a Laurel was brought on by the ever-growing thirst for power in D1 that has left his trusty Mitsubishi Evo X languishing behind in the horsepower stakes. With the Laurel, prepped by God-Hand Koyama no less of Koyama Racing Labo, Kumakubo will be running an RB26DETT pushing out around 1,000hp with the help of a single-turbo conversion to a T88 turbine and NOS to be safe.
The video shows the Laurel undergoing some shakedowns with just acceleration runs through the circuit. One thing you'll immediately notice is the wicked burble of the RB26 that sounds like impending armageddon.
We can't wait for Kumakubo to unleash the fury of this beast on the rest of the D1 field later in the season. As much as we enjoy seeing cars like this breaking the tonne mark in terms of power, a small part of us can't help but be disappointed that D1 has reached a stage where outright power has become such a necessity.
