It was a twist of a different kind that will be keeping Ken Block out of the Rally of Portugal following an accident that saw him send his Ford Fiesta WRC car airborne with multiple rolls mid-air before coming to a halt on its side in a ditch.
Block and his teammate Alex Gelsomino were out doing shakedown and practice runs for the rally when the DC Shoes founder clipped the inside of a turn too deep and the car lifted into the air before rolling once and hitting the ground before rolling several times more in the air before coming to a rest in the ditch.
While Block and Gelsomino are reportedly alright, they were still taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. The car on the other hand is set for the crusher and will play no part in the rest of Block’s WRC escapades.
The next leg on the WRC calendar is the Rally of Argentina and following this unscheduled skip, Block will have more time to prepare for that rally. In the meantime, hit play and watch why Block and Gelsomino won’t be playing any part in the Rally of Portugal.
