Hi mates, the last post was some time ago in 2004. I decided to join this forum today in the hope that someone will contact me regarding this discussion on Holdens. There are quite a few Holdens of the 70s around here in KL, 5 of them being within the Holden group we are in. I own a 1980 holden, my brother a 1979, and 2 of my mates 1973 model. I have been a Holden freak for 32 years now. 3 of these Holdens are being fully restored under my care and loving attention. 1 has been restored sometime ago for a friend and sold for a whopping RM45,000. This car can be viewed in www.adckits.com.my . There are about 2 more in Johore, 2 in Pahang, and 3 in Butterworth/Kedah region. Once I get in touch with all Holdens in the country, I'll be forming a Holden Club Malaysia, first time ever here.

Feel free to discuss on this subject if it interests you. These Aussie tanks are available for event shows, advertising, media presentation etc.

The grass outside is always greener..... FORD n HOLDEN is just like PROTON n PERODUA in MALAYSIA... I mean the branding..... it is local made, very normal for them.....
What I can say bout FORD n HOLDEN is their raw power n their torque.... FORD has the blown XR sixes and HOLDEN has the muscular V8.....
most of the AUSSIE thinks that Japanese car is hotter n more sexy to look at..... if they were to buy something to show off.... it must be a Japanese cars.... owning a Japs car here is consider cheap but paying the spare parts n road tax is gonna be hell expensive.....

Well Calvin, one thing's for sure, no one ever said that Holdens were great cars, neither are any other makes in this world great enough. Each make and model has it's own likes and dislikes, pros and cons.
I am in the classic car restoration business and have built many cars from scratch and each make truly shows it's bad points when you strip them apart. All makes are marketed to show how good they are from the outside for business sense and purpose. To me I've seen so many bad points in Mercedes cars as well as BMWs, Jaguars etc, but would you not buy one, you would if you can afford them. I own a BMW myself and I love the refinement and technology, handling and suspension setup put into the Bimmers. But I also know there are many bad points but that doesn't stop me or anybody else from owning them. Likes and dislikes is a matter of choice. I've been involved with Holdens of the 70s and 80s for 30+ years and still continue to love them for their robustness, quality, reliability and comfort levels that even todays cars can't match. There are numerous websites on Holdens and the love that owners have for them. Similarly, there are numerous websites on love for BMWs, Mercs, Jags, Japs, even Protons and Kancils. Can they be wrong?

Aussie love jap car because they are cheap in most sense. Such as petrol, price of the car, parts, technology if you compare it to holden or ford. Also you are wrong about road TAX, in australia all car pay the same road tax.

My mate are real AUSSIE because they are born there. Anyway the reason why they dislike
FORD n HOLDEN because they are over price for their technology. Those especially their brake system and handling.

hey mate, U think japs car spare parts in Aus selling cheaper than the local made? I dun think so... hav u really survey the pricing between japs car spare parts n spare parts for FORD n HOLDEN ??

HSV spare parts might be selling expensive but quality wise n branding matter.....
Same goes for japs car, it may even goes higher with a lil lower quality....

Okay.. i made a mistake on the road tax........ In Vic we pay the same ~$550.... just there will be special case, some surburban pay lesser...

60k (base price) for a 350Z stockie (no brembo no 18' alloy) 206kW@6200rpm 363Nm@4800rpm V6 3.5

60k for a FPV Typhoon F6 270kW@5000rpm 550Nm@2000-4250rpm I6 4.0T

braking? have u tried the HSV brakes? They do use AP lockhead... FPV? they have the option for Brembo as well.....

safety, handling, reliability wise I will still give a go with the local made, it is not neccessary the local made has higher fuel consumption.....

So, i dun think that local made has over price for their production and technology for the people... in fact, japs car do....

the only thing i can say is that japs n local made have different advantages and disadvantages.....

Honda parts are usually more expensive the orther brands else then that it is more or less the same. As for survay, i used to work for autobarn, we do sell spare parts, so as for price wise, i think i have a better understanding then yours. However pls dont compare it to malaysia.

You are comparing a turbo charge car with an N/A. Why not you compare RB26 with any of the V8 interm of the HP. PLS check out the history of how terrible the V8 lost to RB26 during the group A race in australia, that why the aussie now does not allow any other car to race with their V8 in competition.
If you wana compare HP or KW pls compare within it own range. Nissan V6 3500cc can produce 208KW (N/A) and Name any engine that make in australia which can produce the same amount of HP or KW. Even if an aussie can produce the same amount of HP they still can bet them in 1/4 mile. Can you imagine how many KW if honda start produce 4 litle engine or How many litle does Any of the assie car need to make if they wana bet Honda KW. This is what i call technogy.

As for brake system now only Aussie car start using well know brake system, Nissan or any other brand start using them long time ago. EVO OR GTR is an good example.

Handling? well have you take a ride on 350Z and compare it with FPV Typhoon F6 , if not i guess you better take a ride first before you start to say anything.

is it really that bad? i've seen drivers playing with their fpv n hsv on the road.. damn they r freaking powerful... still would love to own a monaro....

...
Those V8 ofcouse powerfull la on strait road if there are not, you can drive them strait to Klang River or Yara River. LOL. However i was saying compare in every single coner. Dont just compare in strait road. exaample electronic stuff .

a gtr would cost like 40,000 - 50,000 but it only has that limited amount of fun....

Have you done a researh in it? limited amount of fun? Wooooo GTR has the most stuff to play around.

wah so many arguement

Did you worked in autobarn or autoburn previously ?

Anyway engine capacity doesn't determine how much power you can get from the factory. Let compare back with HONDAs and lets not take type-R. Honda S2000 make 250HP on a 2litres motor so does NSX 3.2litres motor need to makes 400HP if goes according to the ratio. There goes the same does 350Z 3.5litres makes 280HP and Falcons XR6 makes 240HP from 4litres motors if i am not mistaken, doesn't makes a different. This is because "white ppl" do not always push their mechanical near limits which Japanese push it slightly higher. Probably you can checkout what components material and components specification then you'll know where is the difference come from.

If talk about "history" yeah holden and ford do lose a big time due to their technology differences. Its just like why ppl didn't talk about the first manufacturer who put in a quattro into rally and wins it. Do many ppl still say quattro from Audi again and again ? Not really coz its "history". Time goes and technology Improve and human learns.

Anyway I am still a JDM freak but I do like HSV GTS-R Monaros which is limited.

is that recommended to enlarge piping after port and polish? or i just stick back to stock piping? heard makin piping for power is just a myth only except for upgrading turbos....
