Im just wondering , does it make you a better driver ? especially when driving on track. I know sim racing lacks of driving element ; the speed , g-force , etc. :driver:

yes....but if only the car u use on sim and real life exactly same or atleast have same behaviour....

but the body still need trained to increase stamina.....

there's one story regarding racing driver selected from major sim racing champion battle.....the driver manage to set amazing laptime considering he's just driving the car within few hours....but he vomit in his helmet while driving coz his body cannot cope with G-force....

in malaysia last time motorsport playground/snf held gt5 simulator battle i think most top driver are all regular racer/snf guy.....

airplanes have simulation.. cars also have simulations

id say yes, in improving braking points, corner entry, practising certain race circuits and developing reflexes. Though it has to be as realistic as possible, with games like Gran Turismo, Live For Speed.

Yeah cockpit would be essential. Changing gears and driving with a PS3 controller just isn't the same thing....

You can learn the technical theory, but not including all the inertia u will get when u do the practical. I'll say u only have 50% from the sim out of 100% of all you need to get on the real track.

You need an instructor when when starting to learn on the real track... never try to do it based on the sims :)

Never had hands on on one of these but i just feel that its only up to a certain extent, these will help in actual races. I once watched a programme about the WRC game sim champion who actually did better timing than the real WRC drivers in real life. It was the WRC Impreza which was used by the WRC game sim champion. Winning that competition, gave this guy the chance to actually try out the exact same track with the exact same car. He crashed. So, looking at this, yes this racing simulations may give you the feel of racing but not sufficient to use that as a training ground to take on the real tracks. Maybe as a starting platform and that is it.

Ya, racing simulators are more like just some basic knowledge about racing,
but is not totally the same when you are in a real one on the tracks.

More like teaching you on how to get a good race line, brake timing and
when is the right time to hit the apex on each corners in order to stay in
the right racing line...

To me, the sim helps you get familiar with the course say 60% of it...which is good...

haaa..because another factor is....

sim cannot create/calculate surface friction/loss after every passes especially on gravel....loose sand and stone including rough surface cannot be created on sims...

on tarmac track also track condition was alway optimum even in the wet still at optimum without water puddle etc etc...so there's still a lot to learn on real life than on sims...

but still sims help train the driver proper line, steering control, throttle control, reflexes, braking and track familiarization :adore:

p/s:f1 driver train on simulator especially on the track that they feels they need to improve (when there's limited testing/training sesion

Human has 5 sense..

1. Vision
2. Hearing
3. Touching
4. Taste
5. Smelling

On sims - u see the lcd screen... u hear your neighbour's cat meowing while u r hearing the sim's audio... u smell your sweat as u perspire due to 'excited' sessions with your joypad... u taste orange juice while u drive on sims and yr touches are only confined to static gravity.. not dynamic motion...

We have to really use at least majority of these senses when drive. Sims only sharpens what you need to do, not necessarily subjecting your body to experience as to when and how to react at each corner, each time a cat jumps on the road, each scenario..

Sims will 'teach' u what to do and how to do it but nothing replaces 'the real world' when it comes to honing skills...

It's like watching 100x JAP AV porn every night doesn't make u the ultimate stud... aka f**cker

LOL

I think sim can only help you memorize the track.

When to start braking.

When to start accelerating.

How much speed to carry into Turn 12 in order to slingshot out of the apex of Turn 13, etc, etc.

But when really go to track, its totally different story.

The adrenalin, heat, sweat, engine and trye screaming, you'll soon realize you forget all you memorized from the sim

sim is an alternative way to brush up the driving skills, if compared to drive a real car on the road.
Yet, not advisable to wholly rely on such virtual practice to drive in the reality world. Both situations have their difference.
