I had the problem too for my 1991 szuki Vitara and mine was worse. It came to a point where i cannot event drive it. Kept dying choking after 1/2 minutes.
My case it was something to do with the injectors within the carbs. If its melfunctioning or dirty it might cause you this sort of problem but to be on the save side its better you check your whole petrol line. It could be anything on your case.
Another advice to you is find a really good mechanic. Alot of mechanics took few tries and still counldnt determine the problem exactly wasting my time and money. Ask around for a good carbeurator or fuel line mechanic specialist.
