Euromobil has recently announced the arrival of the 8th generation Audi A4. Some quick highlights: the new Audi A4 features exterior and interior revisions, equipment updates, and a more efficient line-up of petrol engines (5.8 litres per 100km claimed on the Audi A4 1.8TFSI variant). The 2012 A4 is now open for booking in Malaysia – for immediate delivery.
All engine variants offered in the A4 are turbocharged direct injection systems with start-stop system and recuperation system as standard. The 1.8L TFSI mill has increased power, from 160hp to 170hp along with a significant hike in torque from 250Nm to 320Nm. Fuel efficiency and emissions have also improved. The other engine in the A4 line-up is the 2.0L TFSI mill that offers 211hp and 350Nm. While the 1.8L mill is mated to an 8-speed box, the 2.0L is mated to a 7-speed S tronic box. Quattro all-wheel drive system is standard only on the 2.0 TFSI, featuring self-locking center differentials that help to transmit power to the rear wheels in a 40:60 ratio. When necessary, a torque vectoring function will assist with power redistribution, improving handling and safety. Zerotohundred is a claimed 8.3 seconds in the 1.8 TFSI, and 6.5 seconds in the 2.0 TFSI quattro.
The quattro system on the 2.0 TFSI works together with a sophisticated chassis that incorporates five-link front suspension and a trapezoidal link at the rear, both featuring high content of lightweight aluminium. The mounts on the rear suspension control arms and characteristics of the shock absorbers have been refined. Its electromechanical power steering is also new, its direct gear ratios provides precise response and draws no power from the engine when running in the straight-ahead position, improving fuel economy and emissions. The 1.8 TFSI features the electronic stabilization program (ESP) with electronic limited slip differential. In dynamic driving the system further improves handling and safety by initiating minimum brake interventions at the front wheel that is subject to a reduced load on the inside of the curve.
More refinements follow through on the inside. A wide selection of steering wheels with chrome and high-gloss inlays is offered, including an optional flat-bottomed sporty design. Also worth mention is the optional MMI navigation plus system that now features four buttons, instead of eight, with a script function integrated into the volume control dial. Nappa leather is an option for buyers who wish to replace the standard Valcona leather upholstery. Other options include inlays in a number of luxurious choices –Aluminium Trigon, walnut dark brown, fine grain ash natural brown and the particularly eye-catching Beaufort oak. S-line sport package comes in black with 18-inch wheels as standard (19-inch optional). Boot size is maintained at 480 litres, swelling up to 962 litres with the rear seats folded down.
A total of 15 external paint finishes are offered, including 4 new tones. Pricing for the A4 starts with RM235,000 for the A4 1.8TFSI and RM309,800 for the 2.0 TFSI quattro. The S-line package can be had at an additional RM25,000.
