The development for the Toyota 86 does not seem to stop, and the think tanks from both Toyota and Subaru are looking at endless possibilities in making their current collaboration model into the best sports coupe ever. And while there is a possibility of having a convertible version rolling out of the factories somewhere in 2014, the engineers are also looking into other developments, which one of them includes a new track telemetry system.

With a black box fitted onboard, the 86 car owners will be able to gather any data obtained in their track outing sessions. Of course, this technology is nothing new and could be seen fitted on other vehicles too. But what is unique about this newly-developed system is that they are collaborating with Sony so that the owners could upload their performance data and lap times and share/compare it with others via the Sony PlayStation!

Although there is yet any word on when the kit will be available, the owners of the early models will be able to retrofit their 86/BRZ/FR-S without any troubles. Owners could also download online tutorials and demos for various tracks, which Toyota is now working hard to map down the major tracks from around the world.

It was not an easy task of getting approval from the Toyota’s conservative board for this project at first, but it was the eagerness of enthusiast boss Akio Toyoda whom had tested the developing 86 every month that had made this project to meet up with a green light.
