Modern takes on classic wheels has been around for a while now with the American muscle cars leading the way. However, iconic designs like the Lancia Stratos would surely be met with deeper scrutiny if its designs were viewed through current eyewear.
The interwebs has recently been alight with shots of the iconic Stratos wearing modern day clothes and the first reactions were understandably that it could very well be a hoax or a one-off produced for the unhealthily wealthy.
The car is real and it’s a one-off commissioned by Michael Stoschek, the owner of German automotive supplier Brose KG.
Penned by famed Italian design-house Pininfarina, the modern interpretation tips its hat to the Stratos HF from the 1970’s and does it very well indeed. Although somewhat angular by modern automotive design, the silhouette is still very recognizable as a Stratos.
For now though, the car remains a one-off for Stoschek but more units could be built if the wealthy come flipping their cheque books in Pininfarina’s way.
The bodywork has been crafted in carbon fiber with the underpinnings of a Ferrari F430 serving as the basis for the chassis. Even the running gear is lifted from the Ferrari, the rev-happy 4.3-liter V8 that houses a healthy stable of 510 Italian ponies.
On the inside, things are pretty functional and straightforward. Alcantara–wrapped dash and seats gives it a very racing-feel while the door even has a slot to house the helmet.
Lets hope that something as awesome as this isn’t limited to just one unit as the more is very much indeed the merrier.
