So I already have a 1.6l Wira which unfortunately will cost more than what I'm willing to spend to bring her up to a 'reasonable' level of handling since its synchromesh gears, absorbers and just about every existing bushing are shot plus other problems.

Noticed that turbo equipped Proton Perdanas are well within my budget but would like to only keep one car instead of one for daily driving and one for itchy backside days.

Question now is how much can the Evo 3 engine, the 4G63T, be detuned before things go out of whack and do I have to downgrade the turbine as well or can I run it at a very low boost? I'd still like to have forced induction for once in a while when I'm on long stretches of highway or when I'm late for work.

Detune a 4G63T? Good luck with that.

And dude, if you're complaining about the cost of a Wira, you'll cry when things start happening to a 4G63T Perdana.

why detuned? this is weird. leaving it stock with OEM boost is good for reliability. but a detune? its like you are married with a woman with a 'good body package' then you downgrade her package.

hahaha, maybe the TS wants to show-off tebo engine when open the bonnet....

I just cant understand why the TS wants to detune the evo engine. Meaning making it out of tune ka??

This might be the first time ppl wanna de-tune engine.
Standard factory tuned evo engine is a tuned engine already, for best FC, power, reliability etc.

oh well.....different ppl, different strokes...

Buy airtrek turbo, and that have de tuned Evo engine. Most buy then mod it up again.....hhahhahhaha

if want to "detune" turbo engine, better stick with ori engine.

Use the money to improve the car handling....comfort, or ICE, etc.

The idea is I don't need the power most of the time as a daily use car and of course, fuel consumption but rather than having two cars, it'll be nice if I can have one that's still higher powered than stock, somewhere around 200 bhp.

You just need to drive it normally during daily drive, so when you need the extra juice, it is still there. You go de tune then when you need it, it is not there.....:smokin:

200hp isn't detuned! I think you just need a brick under your accelerator and buy a stock 4G63T car. LOL

For Evo 3 engine 200bhp is de-tuned. My old school VR is standard 200bhp, but Evo 3 standard already 260 to 270 horses.
Buy Evo 3 engine pay money to de-tune? Better exchange engine with mine......:driver:

I guess the TS wants to have HP (around 200hp), but wanted a detuned version so the car go easy of fuel bill.
One cannot gain more hp without adding more fuel.

Well, great great grand father VR4 with 200 horses, I don't think better FC then newer great great grand son Evo's with more horses.....hahaha:biggrin:

that is the benefit of newer engine: high tech, more efficient engine and more powerful.....

Newer Evo engine aint gonna be cheap....

TS, if you plan to get an EVO engine, just run it stock. On stock form, it is pretty fuel efficient (depending on your driving style for sure) and it already has more than 200BHP. So why detune? lol

That is the thing, he want 200bhp only, so want to detune......

Then Perdana with RVR turbo is about 200hp, a factory detuned Evo 3, suits your requirement best.
