hi all,

i was swapping my newly rewrapped steering 2 days ago... and to my horror, the Air Bag light at the dash suddenly came up blinking... checked every single connection and i am very sure i didnt break anything (just swapping steerings!!)....

ran a search online, found out that i need to reset the bloody Air Bag light.... simple steps:

1. turn your key to ON position (do not start your car)
2. immediately, press and let go the driver door switch 7 times within 10 seconds
3. the airbag light will go off
4. then start your car - the blinking light is gone!

nearly gotta fork out some money for diagnose with consult machine... hahahah....luckily its free!

hope this helps!

Hi.. what do you mean "press and let go the driver door switch" ?
Press what?
Which door switch?

Is this applicable to all cars or only certain specific car only?

Different car brand has different reset sequence. You have to be specific which brand are you referring to for your tips to be useful. I guess Nissan or maybe Renault?

Switch: the button that sense whether your car door is open or close.

It's the small black one on ur car frame. Usually it will switch off ur car room light when it's pressed.

This is a skyline forum. Therefore u won't be expecting me to talk abt Renault kangoo rite?

u must be swapping the steering without removing the negative battery terminal :) thats y the light will blinking

u r lucky because the airbag didnt deployed

Since when swapping steering will deploy the airbag? The impact sensors are located at the engine bay and frame, not in the steering....

not necessary is skyline....im talking bout other car.

and for safety, always disconnect negative battery terminal.im just giving friendly advise

im working in this industry, im know what im talking

u laugh because u never experiece yet

even the impact sensors are destroyed during accident, it doesnt mean the airbag will deployed too :)

Trust me, this guy knows what he is talking!..

Totally Agree with huakenny... any mechanic, tint shop, aircond speacialist who is worth his salt will ALWAYS disconnect the terminal when doing any work around the dashboard - aircond servicing (if have to remove dash), ICE, doors, Tint (for those that have side air bags) etc.. Not paranoia, it is about doing the right thing.

The impact sensor is to send an electric signal to deploy and not the deployment agent itself. When car manu. test air bags, they don't keep wrecking a car to see if the bag will deploy. They only send the signal up the processor. Only when they test overall car, will they do an impact test.

So, any "miss" signal will deploy the bag into your face... better to be safe than sorry :)

Happy New Year, guys!

bro,how about if my car airbag have been deployed, then after change airbag, can i just plug and play install to the car?or i need to reset the airbag ECU?....(i worry the airbag ECU is in "deployed mode"...)

AFAIK, you'll need to replace the airbag control unit.

u will need to replaced the said SRS Control Module or reflash it.

or i can reflash the SRS Control module at few hundreds. depending on car model. pm me

during airbag deployment :-

u need to replace

1.steering coupling
2.steering airbag (or any airbag that deployed)
3. safety belt(depend car model)
4.SRS ECU

If it's a GTT, I have the airbags + airbag control unit as spare. Should anyone need it la.

Damn I should have found this info earlier, my airbag light came up a few months ago, I disconnect the wiring to the passenger airbag and removed the airbag bulb from the meter cluster.

BTW, where can I find the airbag control unit in a ECR33-S2 ? Maybe I should remove it as well to save weight, haha.. would it cause any trouble given there is no Airbags actually connected ?

removed the airbag warning light is not recommended, and its bad ideas for sure...the airbag is not functioning and when collission happened, it wont protect you.

have u diagnose to check which component of SRS is faulty? have your airbag deployed before?

if never deployed and warning light came out, normally is steering coupling malfunction(most of d time)....but still gotta diagnose to check the error codes.

if deployed before, mean the SRS control unit need to be replace or reprogram. u can sent to me for reprogram at minimal fee

Airbag was never deploy, the air bag light just lit up without any reason while driving.
The steering is installed with proper after market steering boss kit for quite some time already, the dual stage power steering assist is still working, the wrong boss kit issue is not there.

My mechanic checked the wiring surrounding the boss kit with test pen and all are connected as expected. So we suspect the passenger air bag is the one that is causing the ABS check light to lit up, it is well hidden behind the dashboard and my mechanic does not have the knowledge to diagnose it. So the best option for us at that time is to disable it by disconnecting the wiring to the passenger airbag.

Where is the location of the SRS airbag control module ? Lazy to dig the service manual... :)

try to check it with diagnostic tool

control unit normally located at center console areas
