MDQ n Yumanji,
What do you have against 4AT RX8 drivers? Only 6MT RX8 drivers know how to drive and maintain their cars izzit?
Wah... you guys are AWESOME!
As Mr Leno says "race car driving (or in this case, maintaining too) is like sex, all men think they are good at it"
Anyway, back to the thread title.
RX8 is not a bad choice of car IMHO. Practical sports car with 4 proper seats and surprisingly large boot space. FC wise, its pretty poor, even for a sports car (and I'm not comparing it with your altis, vios, waja etc. etc.). The 350z give better mileage on average, than the 8, and its a 3.5ltr car. Also, if your sis is not the type who would look under the hood of a car, then topping up oil may be a bit troublesome for her, though it is a simple process.
However, if indeed she still goes for the RX8, the AT version is not a bad choice, despite what some ppl think. The usual advantage of AT plus you still have the peddle shifter for the "manual" driving experience. It's also slightly torquer than the manual.
The only thing about the RX8 is you need to drive it hard to truly enjoy it and preserve the engine. The engine loves to be driven at high RPMs. The problem with drivers who r not familiar with rotary is, they will drive it like any regular AT car, and on AT mode. The AT mode on the 8 shifts at rather low RPM and on average, the motor runs around 4000rpm or less even. In the long run, this does not help to remove carbon buildup in the rotary - which is one of the main cause for rotary engine blowing and needing a rebuild. That is probably why there are more AT RX8 engine that blows compare to MT. MT drivers tend to rev up higher before shifting, and thus the engine is subject to higher RPM more frequently which helps with removing carbon. So, if your sis want an AT, she need to drive it hard. Plus its more fun that way... otherwise, why buy an RX8 (or a sportscar for that matter) in the first place rite? :)
Anyway, hope this will give you a bit more info on the RX8. Its a great car if you know what to do with it.
