I understand there is a specialist ECU tuning shop in Damansara that does ECU re-mapping for Hyundai Coupe to increase the low end and mid range torque. The cost is around 1K . Any member has any experience in this area of increasing the power of the Coupe without modification ?

I checked with the company in Damansara and was informed that they will have a session on 15th July. It costs RM999 (quite a tidy sum of money) for Hyundai coupe and takes 40 minutes.
If there are interested members of Hyundai Coupe and if we can get reasonable group discount I don't mind joining in. An extra power will be useful since the coupe is heavy

how much horsepower & torque improvement can be achieved?
Is the tuning according to their mapping? How about user define?

i think its a wide band tune for ecu eprom..i'd tried out a remap eprom b4 at my ssgti and its improve a lot man...BUT its not an easy job..they can easily remap your eprom program but it must then test on dyno to get the result.then you must test on the street to see the impact...they must study your combustion mixture as well as the gear ratio. if not, your car will be jerking or worst case..lost power at certain rpm due to the exact output can't delivered as per program.
i dun see a lot of hyundai outside owner use remap eprom.may be there's a doubt.
anyway..its worth a try. then pass to the rest for imitate..hehehe..i could help.

If I am not mistaken, it is conducted by a Korean specilaist and not done on a daily basis ( I think) . The next session is 15th July and must make appointment. I was told they specialises in Hyundai and has the program for Coupe.Apparently your original settings are saved and if you want to revert, there is no cost involved. If I have a disposable income to the cost to re-map the ECU come middle of the month, I will go for it. Come to think of it just to change to K&N drop in filter for the coupe will cost RM300 at Eneos and don't know how much hp I am going to get and also consumption improvement. Have done a search on the Net on ECU re-mapping for Coupe and came up impressive comments. Just hope it doesn't screw up the running of the car !

Managed to inform blacksamurai in the last minute (bcos of last minute decision) . Unable to get in touch with dartango. Anyway, no loss. The tuning company were unable to do the ecu tuning on tiburon/turbulence ( tuscani OK) bcos the engine management electronics I was told was based on 1998 design. They have to remove the chip and send it back to Korea ! Ma ma mia!!

Anyway, saw them tuning this morning many cars - Kia Carens, Spectra, Mitsubishi Air-Trek turbo, Getz etc. The tuning guy was telling me that they also stock high performance camshaft etc for tiburon. Also slight similarity to proton 1.8mitsubishi engine ????

Looks like now got to revert to K&N drop in filter.

i know it's a big disappointment for ektony and for all of us.

ektony, did he mention how much performance gain for the performance camshaft?

Tuscani owner shall go and have a look, too bad we have gathering at Sunway, else I'll drop by.

Yo folks,

Here's the reply from the person doing the ECU tuning...looks like those car manufactured before 1998 can forget about this idea (I wonder how to check my ECU version???)

My Question:
Any ECU tuning on Hyundai Coupe Gen2 (Year 2000)?
I have added the following K&N Drop Airfilter, Denso Iridium SparkPlugs, Pivot Raizin-E VR & Grounding...so how much more hp & torque can I get from this tuning exercise?

Answer by autosyn:

We need to take a look at your car to check the ECU type. Last week when we had a session a customer came to us with his hyundai coupe (versoion2)... (dartango--> hehe..I think it is ektony's car) but we couldn't tune his car because the ECU was from a 1998 spec model. The newer spec models can be tuned. It is quite hard to tell if the car can be tuned by looking at the year, the car dealer in Malaysia has a habit of bringing in the car that is older spec.

For the newer spec version2 coupe we can squeeze approx 15bhp on wheel on stock car. with your current add on accessories we can squeeze out a few extra hp only. the parts that u can put in to increase good power is to do a CAI (cold air intake) and exhaust and cam.

Dear Ian of Autosyn,

Your partner from Singapore did mention to me that the Hyundai engine is easy to modify and that the 1.8 engine is more interesting than the 2.0 engine for modification (?). He also mentioned that he stocked many performance parts like camshaft etc. Pls check with him to provide a list and if possible the price. I drive to Singapore once a month and can collect them for members (and myself) if they are interested
