Why must Gap?
DENSO Iridium Plug (IK16/20) originally comes with 1.1mm gap between fine tip (Center Electrode) & U-Groove ("Longkang").

For better firing performance, serious performance tuners/street racers will adjust the gap of Spark Plug from 1.1mm to 0.8mm to allow the spark concentrate stronger in the U-groove which results in more efficient compressed air fuel mixture combustion.

With plug gapping, it will further improve the electrical firing performance, pick-up and acceleration for your car.

Benefit of Gapping

1) 3 ~ 5 % horsepower can be additionally gained
2) Easier Ignitability
3) Pick-Up is more responsive - Feel lighter
4) Better Engine Start up
5) Improves Fuel Consumption

As long as IK/KH/Q/W/T16/20L (Original Gap from Factory 1.1mm) once is gapped to 0.8mm => more power and performance can be immediately felt after installed. Fuel consumption will also be improved.

hi bro, best price for campro cps. btw I have sent you an sms but no reply from you.

One question. I do not understand. Just gapping the plug, such a simple procedure will increase power? Why Denso don't manufacture the plugs with 0.8 mm directly? Any downside to plug gapping?

Hi Veloc,

Let me tell you that IK16/20 is 1.1mm gapping from ground electrode to U-groove. IK16/20 is almost universal application for most car. For plug manufacturer, they make most coverage line up for normal usage, but for performance ex, IK22, IW22 is 0.8 gapping for turbo charged and racing cars due to shorter spark required to burn off the fuel. For example, Honda Integra use IK22G, Evo use IW22, Subara Impreza use VK22.

PROTON WIRA 4g13, 1500c Engine, OEM plug used W16epu. Orignial gapping of this normal plug is 0.8mm from manufacture. If we use iridium power IK16 to install, it can be use.

But IW16 from manufacture is at 1.1mm. So after installed still can be used and driven.

Just that the plug with gapping from 1.1mm to 0.8mm more performance will be generated.

The answer is below link.. 0.8mm improves ignitability compare to 1.1mm gapping. This will improve better firing performance.
