Here's one for you gaming buffs, the Bugatti Veyron leads the list of the most-raced cars in the game Forza 3. No surprise there as the Veyron blurs the line between engineering and art, blending 1,001hp from its nuclear bomb of an engine with the aerodynamic engineering that could rival a Formula One car and the luxurious interior expected from limos.

Naturally you would expect the car in second spot to be very similar to the Veyron. How wrong you would be. The car coming in second could not be more of an opposite of the Veyron. It's boxy, spartan, underpowered and old. So why is the Datsun 510 right on the tail of automotive engineering's finest achievement?

The reasoning is plenty similar to why it's still so beloved in the real world, light and easy engine swaps. Under the rules of Forza 3, a wide variety of engines can be shoehorned into the engine bay of the 510, from the venerable RB26DETT from older generation Nissan Skyline GT-Rs right up to some high-performance racing engines, making anything from a few hundred horsepower right up to that nearing ludicrous possible in the little compact. Furthermore, it can also be converted to all-wheel drive.

Courtesy of that, the 510 sits pretty atop the Forza 3 leaderboards in drag racing and can do the standing mile in about 20-seconds, something that would be a world record if done in the real world.

There's a video of a highly modified 510 making mince meat of a Peugeot Le Mans racecar on the mile.
