The Goodyear Formula Drift Malaysia 2010 will be returning to Malaysia this December and will be held at the historical Dataran Merdeka to bring the action closer to the fans.

Slated to be held on 18-19 December, spectators will be able to catch 50 drivers from across the Asia Pacific region pushing their drift machines along the famous stretch of Dataran Merdeka.

A number of familiar faces such as Japan’s Ryuji Miki and Kiwi Daniel Woolhouse will be at the start line as well as the Team Goodyear drivers of Ariff Johanis, Azrina Jane, Michael Gan and Hanizam Hamzah.

“We are thrilled to stage another spectacular Goodyear Formula Drift Malaysia event after such a hugely successful showing last year. The high calibre of world-class drivers is testament to the elite level of competition and we’re excited to bring the event closer to spectators at Dataran Merdeka,” said Harvey Davis, Vice President, Event Management Group, ESPN STAR Sports.

“Drift in the Asean region is one of the fastest growing motorsports in the region today and we’re delighted to be renewing our affiliation with Formula Drift. Goodyear has always had a rich heritage in racing. Its legacy is derived from an association with different forms of racing all over the world for over 100 years which has enabled Goodyear to extract significant learning, relative to tire performance that can be ultimately passed on to our consumers. We are proud to be showcasing the results of these learning at Formula Drift Malaysia,” said Nasution Abdul Rahman, Managing Director, Goodyear Malaysia.

“I am extremely pleased to see events such as Goodyear Formula DRIFT event take place once again on Malaysian shores. Not only does this increase the profile of our country in hosting international events and as a major motorsport hub, it energisers our sporting calendar and indirectly contributes to our tourism initiatives which benefits not only sports fans but the entire country,” said Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur.

The Goodyear Formula Drift Malaysia has become one of the highlights on the regional sporting calendar, attracting drivers from all over the region, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand.

With such an exciting and closed-knit layout, fans can expect some nail-biting tsuiso drifting right on the doorsteps of the historical Sultan Abdul Samad building and the Court House.

The Malaysian round serves as the climax of the three-part Formula Drift series that started in Singapore back in April followed by the upcoming round in Bangkok, to be held on 20-21 November. The launch of the event was held at the Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur building that car a small corner of the car park cordoned off fir a drift demo by the Goodyear Drift team.

Hmm nice, maybe I'll come and watch this time as it's in easy reach now from my place.

errr..don't u all think that the layout was quite narrow????

(compared to world class d1 track layout???) :adore:

it's a great venue, but i would like to know the road surface can be drift or not, it's brick instead of tarmac. hope there's enough great view spectators space :)

Yea, I actually noticed that as well! It looks more like a slalom track if truly that narrow. Wonder where could they make a long high speed sweeping drifts.

and not crashing to the building or filed..(especially at the hairpin turns where the judge would be..it just my guess) :adore:

The narrow layout will make the drift even more exciting as it will make door-to-door tandem drifting. As for the road surface, it is a challenge for the drifters to adjust their car to suit the road surface. If you watch Impak Maksima and Evolusi KL Drift, there is some scene where they drift at Dataran Merdeka. If that can be done, surely it will not be a problem for the Formula Drift.....
