Hi Guys,
I was just wonder if anyone here has information about swapping the older 4 speed auto to the newer 6 speed auto transmission for a Proton Exora 1.6 L CamPro CPS. Is it a straight bolt on swap ? Does the ECU need to be changed ? Any input would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks

The newer model which is using CFE engine is running CVT gearbox which has a SAT button which will emulate a 6 speed gearbox. Its not a 6 speed, its a CVT.

Can u mod the gearbox to your engine?
Yes if u have unlimited budget as i doubt the gb will be bolt on to yr engine and will require an adapter. This is the easy part.

The hard part is to get it to work with yr engine. The CVT is tuned to match the engine character of the cfe. Making it work with non-CFE engine will be a whole new unknown territory.

There are also CVT gb on normal Campro VVT and plain Campro such as the one found on the Saga FL 1.6, FLX 1.3, latest gen Persona, Iriz, non-turbo Preve. These model could have higher chance of easier bolt on.

Then again, bolting the gb to the engine is the easiest part. Making it work with the engine is another thing. What i mean is that making the ECU works together with the TCU. This is the part where i bet most shop will look away.

Thank you for summarising my essay..hehehe..

Anyway, CPS powered Exora seems to hold its value quite well.

Modding a car, you won't gain extra value. Used market, modified cars don't have additional value. So better off just selling the current one and buy what you want.

So much easier to do it this way. Why ask for trouble?

Eat full shit already nothing better to do.

come on guys.. don't have to be that rude.. maybe selling and buying the cvt exora wasn't even an option for him. this is automotive forum. Anyone can do anything to their own car right.. no judging..

you have to seek advise from proton GBox expert on these compatible issue.. the Gbox might not working properly would be a nightmare. might also ask proton SC technician to confirm.

In terms of PNP - yes it is. But to get it to work it needs a lot of things to swap around. ECU/TCU, if I recall correctly there are sensors too on the 6 speeder so it might not be economical to do the swap.

ah yes the sensors...
i still remember trying to drive uphill at a mosque entrance near cameron highland in a full load Exora bold from standstill. The revs build up until abt 1800rpm around the cvt lock up point and suddenly the engine releases the boost or did something causing the rev to drop back to idling. It cant handle the climb in D.

Once switch to L it climb smoothly.

My theory is the gearbox is programmed to protect itself as boost is abt to kick in at a very steep climb under full load. Not friendly to the cvt belt and pump.

i know there one specialist workshop for proton "punch" transmission at glenmarie cove/pandamaran opposite BHP. U might get some technical infos and cost info there..

considering exora have canbus ecu and body electrical control system...

plus cvt and normal at tcu doesnt even matchup atleast at the connector plug...

its a wiring nightmare...

plus the cost of getting the gearbox, might be better do engine transplant straight from 4g93gdi-t for power and fuel economy...
