Drifting itself has been often described as a form of rolling art but the video of Round 5 of the D1NZ 2011 drift championship is in itself rolling art of the reel kind. It’s pretty lengthy at over 18 minutes but believe us that you won’t be bored for even a second.
The video was shot on location at Pukekohe Park Raceway, the venue for Round 5 of the D1NZ series. The track is regarded as one of the world’s fastest drift circuits with entry speeds through the infamous Pukekohe Sweeper reaching over the 200km/h mark every time.
Not only does the video showcase some incredible drifting footage, it also has some of the drifters themselves describing how what excites them about drifting, how they feel about the track and admitting that the Sweeper scares the living excrement out of them.
D1NZ regulars such as Gaz Whiter, Fanda Dan, Carl Ruiterman, Sky Zhao, Daynom Templeman, Gee Mutch, Gary Tenana. Mad Mike Whiddet and Andrew Redward put a piece of themselves out there for an emotional touch that most other drifting videos fail to capture.
There’s even some drifting footage from years back at the circuit that saw some the pioneering steps taken into what has now become D1NZ and home to some of the best drifters on the planet.
Directed, filmed and edited by Kenny Ruddell together with Kevin Brasting helping out on the filming side as well, this video is a must watch.
