The much-awaited Honda Integra Cup Malaysia, which will be making its debut at the Malaysian Super Series at Sepang Circuit this weekend, will kick off in grand style with an impressive starting grid of 25 cars.
“With this overwhelming response, I believe the JPM Honda Integra Cup Malaysia could well be the highest number of entrants for an inaugural race series in Malaysia,” declared series promoter J.P. Chin of JPM Motorsports.
Graced by a mixture of professional and amateur drivers; seasoned and rookie racers, the Honda Integra Cup Malaysia would provide a true test of drivers’ skills and capabilities with all drivers using the same 2000cc Honda Integra DC5 machine and the same Michelin tyres.

Launched by Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Datuk Liow Tiong Lai in Kuala Lumpur last night, the series would feature among other Malaysia’s top drivers in the likes of Firhat Mokhzani, Farriz Fauzy, Faizal Hakimi Jaafar, 2004 Malaysian Super Series supercar champion, Adam Azman and Tengku Hammam Sulong, who would be making a comeback to motor racing.
J.P. Chin, a seasoned racer and a regular competitor at Sepang, would also have the deal with the challenge, passion and energy of his two highly successful racing sons, T.J Chin and T.P Chin.
Describing the series as ‘exciting, enjoyable yet serious’ competition’, JP said his efforts to introduce the championship was spurred by his love for motor racing and the support from his circle of racing.

“We hope this event could be catalyst for the development of motorsports in Malaysia as we are providing a relatively cheap means of racing as all the cars are prepared by us. Drivers will only need to bring their racing suits and helmets to the race track,” JP added.
Modeled against the famous Japan’s Integra Cup, all the 25 cars for the Malaysian series would be prepared by Honda Japan with support from Mugen Power, Enkei, Michelin and Honda One-Make Association.

The debut season of the Honda Integra Cup Malaysia will run in six rounds within the Malaysia Super Series; two as part of the Japan GT Championship Malaysia support races and the final and ninth round as a mini endurance race on November 18 at Sepang Circuit.
Launching the series, Liow commended the efforts of JPM Motorsports and urged more corporate companies to take similar initiative to support the Government’s effort to develop motorsports in Malaysia.
“Most important is that the series is organized professionally with good safety measures and according to regulations spelt out the sporting authorities. While we support motor racing programmes, safety for the competitors and the spectators is a must. There should not be any compromise,” Liow said.

Commenting on the series, Azman said that he was looking forward to the challenge; adding this is good competition platform as it is everybody would be competing in a level playing level.
Despite the entry of some social racers, the 2004 MSS champion said he expected stiff competition from the drivers as everybody would be driven to win especially with a number of them being season racers.
Apart from the Honda Integra Cup Malaysia, the Malaysian Super Series, which enters its second round this weekend, would also feature the supercar, supersaloon, 1600cc supersixteen and sub-1000cc supercompact races under the car categories.

The bike categories will feature the 130cc Production Bike Championship, 150cc Kawasaki Cup, the two-stroke 250cc Aprilia Cup, the 600cc Supersports championship and the open superbike championship.
The event starts Friday (May 26) with free practice for all categories and with Saturday (May 27) featuring the qualifying sessions and the opening race for the bikes. Sunday (May 28) will feature the remaining races.

Porsche have let loose on plans to reveal a mid-engines sports car at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show that will headline the showcase alongside its latest 911 variants, the GTS and Speedster.

The bets are in though and it looks like a firm hand on the new variant being the much-rumoured Cayman Clubsport, something along the lines of a...
