Keeping the cost of racing down is one way to get more masses to jump in the driver’s seat and scratch that racing itch. However, it’s no secret that racing is a hard habit on the wallet and no matter how you look at it, cost will always become an issues.

One of the cheapest ways into racing is through the spec-racing route. Everything is kept identical, the cars are the same, most of the time showroom-stock with the exceptions of the safety features such as roll-cage, harness and fire extinguisher.

In lieu of this, Honda and Mazda have shaken on it to create a B-Spec racing series based on the Honda Fit (that’s Jazz for us locals) and the Mazda2.

While the idea of throwing these two hatches around a track might not get you all buzzing, you just need a brief drive in one of them to realise the immense chuckability of the two cars. Add in the race spec stuff that tightens them up and you have quite the hatches to tackle the corners with a load of excitement thrown in.

The level playing field for the competitors, ensured by the stock engine and chassis, will retain driving skill as the main race-winning factor, especially confounded by the fact that power will not be overwhelming in either of the cars.
