Although a drag race might sound easy since it generally involves mashing a car in a straight line, it is a bit more complicated when the amount of power that comes from under the hood demands more than just skills and respect to tame it down. If from the previous post, we had the 86 switching its boxer heart to a much powerful 2JZ for more power, this Miata ditches its 4-cylinder for something that Nissan owners would drool for.

To turn it into a 9-second pocket rocket, this Miata houses a turbocharged RB26 to get if off the starting line to the finish in a flash. With some modifications thrown in to make it a fearsome drag monster, it has 900 horses on the wheels and over 1000 if measured from the crank. By the numbers, this car is already a winner even before the start of the race.

But a wild horse needs a wild driver to be able to control it when things get messy, and this Miata has one. During one of its high-speed run against a Civic EG, the speeding Miata suddenly loses control and swerves into a series of impromptu drifting on the drag strip. The driver must have had a couple of sideways training before as he skillfully controls the sliding Miata from hitting both the walls and the competitor.

Followed by an endless stream of praises and applauses, the driver seemed calm and smiling to have survived the ordeal which could have ended in a disastrous fashion. And the cause of this nerve-racking, unplanned stunt? Spilled coolant over his wide slicks. Let’s just hope that this is the last of such as it might not turn pretty for the next time we see some 200+km/h drifting on a drag strip.

The handling of the car? Is it as good as Neo? Cause I am thinking of getting this car and change it into a tracking car.
