Which Old School BMW Car Should I Go For? (help)

I was considering pre owned e90s to buy. But through browsing and taking my time to really consider everything to do with it, I began to think that maybe it won't be practical for me to own a pre-owned e90s in the long run (maintenance speaking).

This got me into checking the old school BMWs. Some said the old bimmers can be maintained / serviced by your own selves without much trouble, is this true? Here is what I am looking for:

-Not so expensive. (within 100k)

-Easy to maintain and won't drain my bank balance in the long run.

-Looks hot as fack and can be easily modified to look sexier.

-Sexy exhaust sound.

One final question though, what mileage should I reasonably expect? Thank you so much for your time.

The new F30 is coming soon to M'sia. This means the price of pre-owned E90 is gonna drop further. You may want to reconsider you decision.. On the other hand, if you wanna stick to your decision, the E39 5-series is not a bad choice. TopGear says this could be the best 5-series ever. Price range is from RM35k to 90k, depending on year/model/condition. With proper 18' or 19' wheels, good paintjob and M bodykit, you'll certainly turn heads around. If you could get the 400bhp V8 powered M5, that will simply be awesome.. :driver:

Frm ur budget, i suggest u xplore the e46 as a start, 2.5 engine shud give a natural growling engine sounds with (very) good torque and accel. The m-sport edition is hard to find in the market, esp wit smg.

if you're not lmited to the smaller 3 series, check out some E39s available on the market. All 6-cylinder BMWs sound great with an exhaust.

Yes, E39 is a very good car, but it's not as simple that you can fully maintain on your own without proper tools as E39 is already pretty high tech.
I don't think you can get an E39 M5 under RM100k! Even the E46 M3 is still around 150k. And most importantly, think about how much you need to pay for the road tax, simply madness!:banghead:

to me, E46 look good enough, maybe for a starter 325 for 2002-2004 models

So far, the top 2 mentions is e46 and e39. Go drive both and see how you feel. Trust me, the correct one will "speak to you".

To me, e39 hands down... but then again, I might be bias... that's my project car... hahaha

E39.. a classic. best in its class, and owners of both the E39 and E60 said the E39 stood its ground and gave the E60 a run for the money despite being older..do some search on the web..

personally I feel the E60 is didn't make that significant improvement from the E39..apart from the Bangle styling..not in a negative way, but because the E39 was so good that there weren't much for the E60 to improve on back in the day :)

and here..they compare the E39 M5 to the latest and greatest from Bavaria yet..the venerable F10..

BMW 5 E39...old school and respect.

and even until today..when people talk about the F10 they can't help but looking back at how the 5 series have grown..yet not that dissimilar from the E39 of the yesteryear. seems like the E39 is the benchmark for the 5 series.

I vote for e38 7series. Go for the 3.5 v8 model. Its a complete package. Price is under 100k. Exterior is very nice and solid (very the mafia looks). Interior can make girls melt. Sound? Its a v8, still wanna ask?:thefinger:

Well, my neighbour will totally agree with you. When he first shifted in, he drove a e39.... then he bought a e60 but sold it off in less than 4 months. I asked him why and he said he didn't like how the feel and drive of the E60. I thought it was maybe just and excuse lar. Well, he just took delivery of his F10. All this while, he still drives and keeps his e39 inside his porch and the f10 out in the rain & sun.

This guy really loves his e39. One of the reasons why i had the confidence in buying it as well after that. Ha Ha!

Review: BMW F90 M5 Sepang Circuit First Drive + Turn by Turn Impressions

Actual pull from this 600hp new era 4WD BMW M5 sedan is brutal in real world acceleration but no where near as barbaric as say, a 911 Turbo in case you're wondering. Even so, it is not wrong to say they...
