The Thread Starter should at least explain to potential respondents the purpose and why doing the survey. Introduce yourself as who you are....This is important when you seek people's time and cooperation for your survey. Courtesy is a must.
How would you react when suddenly someone says he is from "A" university and starts asking questions?
Anyway, I have been in touch with many (master degree) students these day that they said wanted to do research. Many of these students just simple "barged" in with their questions. Some of the questions were strange, inappropriate, rude, etc. When ask about their questionaires, they seem to be clueless. Some doing their survey with questions that weren't even vetted by their supervisor.
Doing survey is an ART and and requires skill.
What happened to the quality of education hah??
